KANSAS To Big Six Post Another Pro Football Title to Cleveland Browns' defeated the Yanks, 14-9, in the circuits initial championship tilt a year ago. Meanwhile, the Chicago Cardinals gained their first western division crown by turning back the National leagues defending champion Bears, 30-21, while the Philadelphia Eagles tied the Pittsburgh Steelers for the lead in the eastern half chase by clipping the Green Bay Packers, 28-14.

The Eagles will meet the Steelers in Pittsburgh next Sunday in a playoff for the eastern diadem with the winner then proceeding to Chicago to meet the Cards for the circuit championship Dec. 28. New York, Dec. 15. (AP) The infant All-America football conference is hailing its Cleveland Browns as champions for the second straight year today while the seasoned National league is toasting a new western division titlist and getting ready to salute a new eastern division king.

Sparked by Otto Graham, the Browns defeated the New York Yankees, 14-3, for the conference title, before- 61,879 fans at the Yankee Stadium yesterday. The fiery Kansas State Wildcats will meet Indiana University in Kansas Citys municipal auditorium tonight, marking the opening of the seven-team Big Six conferences most lively week of basketball activity for the month. The conferences annual pre-Christmas tournament is set for Kansas City Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Missouri Tigers, undefeated in three games, will meet St. Louis University at St. Louis tonight, and Nebraska takes on South Dakota University at Lincoln, tomorrow.

Kansas State forged into the limelight last week in lacing T. C. U. 75-17 and an upset over Indiana tonight would label the Wildcats as a strong contender for the Big Six crown. Most important development of the young season bobbed ud at Emporia, Saturday night where the Emporia State college Homers walloped Dr.

F. C. (Phog) Allens Kansas Jqyhawks 67-44. Missouri starts the week undefeated in three games, but the Tigers had a tough scuffle in edging Drakes Bulldogs, 43-38, at Columbia, Saturday night. St.

Louis also is undefeated, boasting wins over Arkansas State, Minnesota and Baylor and a victory for the Billikens could not be considered an upset. In other games Saturday night, the Iowa Cyclones whipped Morning-side (la.) college 68-50; Oklahoma took it on the nose from DePaul 71-61, and Nebraska lost to Minnesota, 63-59. First round pairings for the Big Six tournament Thursday: 2:00 Oklahoma vs. Kansas State. 4:00 Missouri vs.

Nebraska. 7:45 Oklahoma A. M. vs. Iowa State.

9:30 Kansas vs. Colorado. Reaves Peters, above, of Kansas City, has been named commissioner of officials and assistant secretary for the Big Six conference. His headquarters will be in Kansas City. He is a veteran Kansas City high school coach and is secretary-treasurer of the National Association of Football Officials.

All American Legion Post and Auxiliary members and their families are invited. The Big Six Hangs Its Hat in K. C. Office Established There; Junior College Grads Immediately Eligible to Play Kansas City, Dec. 15.

(AP). The Big Six conference has a new office and executive but all of the matters of policy and policing will continue In the hands of the league's faculty representatives. In two important moves at the annual December meeting over the week end the faculty; group: 1. Creater a central office, to be located in Kansas City. 2.

Named Reaves Peters, commissioner of officials of the conference since 1938, assistant secretary, in charge of the office. Prof. Sam B. Shirky of Missouri University, secretary of the faculty committee, said the office was created for the purpose of facilitiating the operation of the conference, but that duties of the secretary had not been determined. At Northeast High Peters, head of the physical education department basketball and track coach at Kansas Citys northeast high school since 1921, said it likely would be next spring, probably June, before he could take of the office.

He will resign from his duties at the high school. The faculty committee tabled a request from the student- councils of Big Six schools that racial discrimination be eliminated from the athletic program of the conference, Two of the members, Missouri and Oklahoma, have constitutional policies regarding segregation. In other actions, the committee: Made bona fide Junior college graduates eligible for immedite competition in conference athletics: Elected Dr. H. H.

King of Kansas State College as delegate to the N. C. A. A. meeting in New York January S-10: Track Meets February 28 Set dates for the indoor track meet at Kansas City for February 28.

Set dates for the outdoor track meet at Lincoln, May 21-22. Postponed action of a recommendation by the athletic directors that the home court ruling be waived to permit conference teams to play occasional basketball -games in Kansas City. The second annual Big Six-Southwest conference track meet will be held in Dallas, June 5, 1948. The faculty representatives of the Big Six, officially the Missouri Valley intercollegiate athletic association, again declined to suggest a new nickname for the conference. The conference was expanded December 1 to include a seventh member, Colorado University, and there has been strong move in the behalf of Oklahoma A and for membership.

Glenn Davis, former West Point football star, and Tom Collins, Kansas City humorist, will be the featured speakers at the annual banquet Wednesday honoring Kansas State College and Manhattan high school football players. Harry Walker Is Batting Champ New York, Dec. 15. (AP). Harry Walker of the Philadelphia Phillies, who failed to make the grade with the Phils in 1939, was being hailed today as the 1947 batting champion of the National league.

The brilliant Philly outfielder finished the past season with a lusty .363 mark, according to final official figures released by the league yesterday. Walker, who played in ten games with the St. Louis Cardinals before moving to the Phils where he performed 130 more, collected 186 hits in 513 trips to the plate including a homer, 16 triples and 29 doubles. His 16 three baggers also topped the loop. Bostons Rob Elliott the leagues most valuable player, batted .317, three points higher than Chicagos Phil Cavarretta and Cincinnatis Augie Galan who wound up in a tie for third place with .314 marks.

Rounding out the top ten are Ralph Kiner, Pittsburgh, fifth, Stan Musial, Louis, sixth, George Kurowski, St. Louis, seventh, Tommy Holmes, Boston and Pete Reiser, Brooklyn, eighth, .309 and Dixie Walker, tenth, .306. 98c Non-League Battles Continue 1 This Weeks Games Include Two Between SEK Members But They Do Not Go in Standings Two games on this weeks basketball schedule will pit Southeast Kansas league foes against each other but the contests are nonleague affairs. Iola is involved in one, going to Port Scott on Friday. Parsons at Pittsburg Tuesday is the other. Otherwise the long slate of games for the week is a non-league, intersectional list, as far as SEK league and EK junior collfege teams are concerned. One Tri-Valley league game is listed Burlington at Neodesha Friday.

Other TV teams will wait until January to open. A number of games bearing traditional neighborhood rivalry are listed on the Class high school schedule. In one non-league SEK battle ready staged, Pittsburg proved up to its pre-season threat by walloping Columbus 32-22 last week. A few SEK league teams are involved in intersectional competition of interest: Chanute and Parsons against Ottawa, and Pittsburg at Lawrence and Topeka. Of the six junior college games, only one Is a contest between Western and Eastern division teams Coffeyville at El Dorado Thursday.
