From that rock, the ball bounced off the fringe and rolled to within five feet of the hole. I missed the birdie and two-putted for a par. As it happened, tournament organizers had designated that hole for the one for the closest-to-the-pin contest. So my shot was marked and, remarkably, that distance was not bettered during the tournament. I won a gift certificate which I traded in at the pro shop for a Ping putter which I had been wanting for some time.

By Richard D. Forth While golfing last June in the PGA (that's Pharmacy Golfers' Association) Annual Tournament at Inglewood, I was set to tee off on the first of the Par 3 holes on the course. I lined up and swung. The ball was firmly but poorly hit. It careened off one of the women's tee markers, bounced across the tee box and off a tree.

My ball then arched toward a large water hazard on the right-hand side of the fairway. It missed the water only to land on one of the large timbers But any tournament must be worth at least $100,000 to be sanctioned by The Canadian Pro Tour. "The Klondike Klassic golf tournament will provide a unique opportunity for golf fans to watch and even play with a field that includes some of Canada's best professional golfers," said organizer Bannard. It will be the third Alberta stop on the Canadian Pro Tour, which this year includes the Canadian Home Alberta Open at Wolf Creek in Ponoka and a new event, the Paradise Canyon Classic in Lethbridge. (Distributed by the Southam-Star Network.) By Ray Turchansky (Edmonton Journal) EDMONTON Edmonton Northlands has announced that it will sponsor an event on the Canadian Pro Tour of golf next year.

The new event is being called Klondike Klassic. It will be held at The Ranch Golf and Country Club west of Edmonton from July 15-18, 1993, preceded by a pro-am on July 14. The event will be held during the week preceding Klondike Days at least through 1997. Bruce Bannard, chairman of the Klondike Klassic, said prize money and other details will be announced later this spring. which was bordering the hazard.

Spokesperson Elena Gordon said players had not yet been notified of the change but she expected few withdrawals from the May 14-17 event.

The field includes Nick Faldo of England, No. 3 Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain, No. 4 Ian Woosnam of Wales and No. 5 Seve Ballesteros of Spain. Tournament organizers learned Tuesday of the strike by workers at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, a top-flight course that was a candidate to stage the 1993 Ryder Cup Gordon said the tournament now will be played at the Royal Spanish Automobile Club course, about 30 kilometres north of Madrid.
