Nows from Capital Hill 708 HOSPITAL INSURANCE FOR OLDER AMERICANS Washington Why is President Kennedy so interested in the hospital bills of older people? The answer is tightly tied to their low incomes and the likelihood that they'll need talization which many of them can't afford. Here's how the President explained his interest last February in a special message to Congress: "A proud and resourceful Nation can no longer ask its older people to live constant fear of a serious Illness for which funds are not available. We owe them the right to dignity In sickness as well as in health. "We can achieve this by adding health insurance primarily hospitalization insurance-to our successful social security system. We urgently need this legislation--and we need it now." The facts surrounding the health and financial condition of most of today's nearly 18 million people 65 or older leave no room to doubt their need for help with their medical problems.

First, the average couple 65 or older has income of less than week; the average only a week and the older person, living alone has average older person living with relatives has a weekly income of less than $9. And, a very high percentage of the aged have practically no assets Where Our Aliens Come From Residents) 577,895, Canada 339,659 United Kingdom 247,8114 Germany 247,805 Italy 228,766 Poland 129,884 Cuba 93,453 Japan 61,943 Ireland 61,102 U.S.S:R. 57,309 Netherlands 55,107 All Other Permanent Residents 791,281 Transients Grand Total 344,669 3,236,684 ALIENS UP Over 100,000 more aliens reported their addresses to the Immigration and Naturalization service this year than in '62, according to Justice Department figures. California tops all states, with 710,419 aliens registered. Trend: alien population is increasing in the Southwest, declining in most other areas.

Exception: Florida, with influx of Cuban nationals. J. C. Parr Of Near Wylie Passes Away J. C.

Parr. life-time resident of the Wylie area, passed away at 2:30 a. m. Thursday at his residence after several months of failing health. Funeral ments are pending with Williams Funeral Home of Garland.

He is survived, by four sons and a daughter: J. C. Parr Dallas; Dorsey Parr, R-2 McKinney; Jack Parr, Wylie; John R. Parr, Azusa, Mrs. Norris Curtis, Nevada and a number of grandchildren.

He also has several brothers. wife, the former Leona Moss, died in November 1959. Mr. Parr was a brother-inlaw of Mrs. Walter Holland of this city.

Latta Family To Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Jim Latta are expecting a visit soon from their son, Jimmie Latta Jr. and his family. Mr.

Latta is with the Geophysical Service, with general headquarters in Dallas, but he has been on assignment in Europe the past two or three years. They are at present in Amsterdam, Holland from which point they will come to McKinney. Mr. and Mrs. Latta have two children, Jimmie Latta and Javier, nine months old.

More than 25,000 of the 125- 000 P. S. public schools are oneteacher schools. to draw on for medical costa. Second, older people- because.

of their age- are more likely to need hospital care than younger people and are going to need to be hospitalized longer. The facts are these: -One out of every 6 people 65 or older will be hospitalized during the year and the average stay will be about two weeks, twiee as long as the average younger person. President Kennedy -The hospital bill, not including doctor's and other expenses, will average about $525. The total bill -will be about $900. This represents more than onethird of the total yearly income of today's average older couple and only slightly less than the total i income of the average older person living alone.

These faets show clearly that most older people just cannot afford to be ill for very long. If they are, they must turn to THE LIGHTER SIDE By DICK WEST Washingon (UPI) Most of Us have a few profane friends whose language causes us to cringe or blush, depending on whether we are cringers or blushers. If you have friends like that then you might be interested in a new swearing technique heard about recently. It suggests a way you can help your friends not only clean up their language but make it smell better as well. Under this method, the person whose use of swear words gives you offense is persuaded to substitute the names of flowers for the objectionble terms.

No Crude Connotations. The floral world abounds with innocent little appellations that can be used to form epithets that are expressive and yet devoid of crude connotations. The first step in the rehabilitations of your -mouthed friends is to coach them to exclaim "great jumping geraniums!" when they are starteld or amazed. If we can get them in the habit of exclaiming "great jumping geraniums" the step will be comparatively simple. The next sep is to change their naughty manners of expressing astonishment.

Recommended substitutes are "Well. I'11 be a fringed milkwort" arkd I'll be a double Will Establish Pattern. By this time a pattern will have been established and they will soon be registering exasperation or disgust with "Oh horse chestnuts!" rather than something more graphic. The second phase of botanical cursing is likely to be more difficult, however, for it involves the names your friends call other people. Break them in gently, by suggesting that they "take that, you dastardly when punching someone in the nose, They can let off steam that way while remaining within the bounds of verbal propriety.

Then they can work up to "unhand me, you hybrid hyacinth!" or "don't get gay, with charity, public welfare or their children For the President, this situation which should not exist. Thus, he has proposed what he calls the only reason able and practical solution to critical problem A program of hospital insurance under cial security, The benefits of the program would be available to all social security and railroad retire ment. beneficiaries over: 65. In addition, the protection would be extended to all others who are over 65 and have not had the chance to be covered by social security. In the long run, nearly every one will receive the health insurance by coverage under the social security program during working years.

For the averagi worker the cost would be 25 cents a week or $13 a year. The Hospital Insurance Act will be delivered out of key Congressional Committees and voted into law when majority of legis lators, convinced of Its soundness, sense a power demand from their con stituents for its enactment.
