Fri.Jan. 23,1987 Man life receives in vicious slaying A20 CALGARY HERALD after three masked men broke into their home. She said she was attempting to open a safe in an upstairs bedroom when she was beaten into unconsciousness. She woke up with her head in a toilet bowl and a scarf tied tightly around her neck. Legere, who testified in his own defence, insisted he did not take part in the murder-robbery.

But the Crown told the court Thursday that Legere was really the leader in a "brutal, gruesome, senseless crime." Before sentence was passed, Legere calmly told the court that a police officer who testified during the trial had misinterpreted comments made during a' conversation in prison. "I still maintain Mason Johnston misinterpreted me," Legere said. "That's all I can say. I don't know how much his evidence weighed on me but I still think he misinterpreted me." Johnston testified that Legere told him he would plead guilty to murder if he could make a deal on his sentence. NEWCASTLE, N.B.

(CP) The third man charged in the vicious slaying of an elderly storekeeper was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday as a shocking trial concluded in this northeastern New Brunswick town. Allan Legere, 38, of Newcastle showed no emotion when he was sentenced by Mr. Justice Paul Godin to life in prison with no eligibility of parole for 18 years. Legere and two other men Todd Matchett, 18, and Scott Curtis, 20 were charged with killing John Glendenning, 66, of nearby Black River Bridge. Matchett and Curtis, also of Newcastle, pleaded guilty and will be sentenced Monday.

Glendenning died after he was beaten and strangled during a robbery in his home last June 21. His wife, Mary, 63, was sexually abused and severely beaten. Matchett and Curtis entered surprise guilty pleas two weeks ago, just before Mary Glendenning took the stand. The woman, still bearing the scars of the attack, described a night of horror tin ihi lnl.t.liIMIimi...'.,.lliillm m.i,. .111 r.n,i WARNING TO ALL PARENTS OF CHILDREN UNDER 2 CONCERNING PHENERGAN SAVE UP TO 60 ON WOMEN'S, MEN'S AND CHILDREN'S CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES.

But then, I should be accustomed to being surprised by ROBERT FRASER, GENERAL MANAGER AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, AVIS RENT A CAR. 4 'A recent trip out West gave me an excuse to try Wardair's new Big Seat Service. I'd flown Wardair on numerous occasions and by now, I should be used to being pleasantly surprised by Wardair.

The Big Seat was more than comparable to both the first class seat and business class seat I've enjoyed on other airlines. There was plenty of leg room and space to stretch out. My flight was the morning one and the service was as usual, superb. We were given an excellent choice of meal, champagne and orange juice. The flight attendants were helpful without being annoying which is a great plus on a business trip.

We left on time, we arrived on time. The fact that Wardair gave me the first flight out in the morning gave me plenty of time to get down to business at the other end. I would recommend Wardair's Big Seat service without reservation. On second thought, you'd better make a reservation. This is going to be a popular choice for business WARDAIR cawooi 2121 iiAmT Mm M-i6aismiiDMra J43-4ill imOBDSI 3JP 3131 ALL ITEMS AVAILABLE WHILE OUANTXES LAST The way we get you thercgot us here.
