Carey's decision to close down five alcohol rehabilitation centers three of which are located in New York City. The legislators are miffed because they were not consulted and they accuse state officials of "dumpipir" holies into the streets. Actually the people in these centers will be fully treated before they are released and much of the money saved from the closings will be put into local and community treatment centers. Locking- up alcoholics in large state wards not the answer to the problem.

Our mam concern is that the state sets up effective local treatment programs which offer people real help. Officials estimate there are 6000,000 alcoholics in New York City and all our public and private programs reach only b' of them. A disgraceful statistic. Hearings Are Set On Historic Sites The Landmarks Preservation Commission will hold hearing on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in City Hall.

At this hearing the commission will consider a proposal designating three structures as official landmarks. The structures are Trinity Lutheran Church at 309 St. Paul's Ave. in Staten Island. Pratt-New York Phoenix School of Design at 160 Lexington and the George V.

Vanderbilt residence at 647 Fifth both in Manhattan. The commission will also consider a proposal to designate two areas as landmark districts. They are City Hall Calendar the Fulton Ferry area in downtown Brooklyn, and the immediate area surrounding the Metropolitan Museum in Manhattan. The Board of Estimate will wieet on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in City Hall.

At this meeting the board will consider a proposal to increase the rent in the Morn-ingside Heights Co-op in Manhattan. It will also consider a plan for a new mall on 165th St. in downtown Jamaica. Queens. Another case before the board is the controversial zoning amendment to limit adult entertainment uses in residential areas.

The City Council has scheduled the following: Tomorrow, the Committee on Public Safety will meet at 10 a.m. to consider coordinating citywide programs to fight crime against senior citizens. The meeting will be held at 250 Broadway. Manhattan. On Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
