Gilroy fouled out with 7:46 to go, making- contact when Harrold hit on a jumper. He missed the free throw. Then it was Gordon Thomas, coming off the bench six of the last 10 St. John's points to give the Redmen a 41-37 halftime lead. All of this was sickening to Don Casey, who did not need any of it.

The Temple coach had been in Temple University Hospital, from last Sunday until Thursday morning, with an intestinal flu that caused him to lose nine pounds in three days. He even arrived here walking with the aid of a cane, but discarded it yesterday. Last night, however, Casey needed more support than that.
