Phone LI 2-3371 ANDE RSON BUTANE AND PROPANE South Highway 75 McKinney, The Texas State Society, an organization of Texans working in Washington, is starting a drive to raise money for a special portrait of our beloved Sam Rayburn.

The portrait will be presented tc the House of Representatives hang in the new office building that has been named for Mr Rayburn. The Society has asked me assure that donations to the por trait fund will be tax free and of course I am glad to be of any service I can. If you would like to join in this tribute to Mr. Rayburn, write to me and I will be glad to send you further information. Or.

if you would like to send a donation, I will be glad to pass it on. Make any checks payable to the Texas State Society Sam Rayburn Portrait Fund. Turning to another subject, 1 would like to join with the district and the nation in honoring Capt. Robert E. Whelan of the 4780th Air Defense Wing at Perrin Air Force Base, who has been selected for astronaut training.

And 1 would like to salute another group of people who are giving service to their communities: the mail carriers. Their work has been honored by a commemorative stamp marking the 100th anniversary of free city mail delivery'. Delivering the mail is not an easy job. We have heard about some of the hazards, such as rain and sleet and snow. And of course, in our area, we can add the heat of a Texas summer.

But the carriers deliver the mail so important to all of us with faithfulness, responsibility and courtesy. I was interested to read recently, in one of the fine newspapers in our district, that many Texans are requesting assign- ment to the USS Sam Rayburn, the new Polaris submarine that will be launched in December, Commander Oliver H. Perry, who will be the subma- captain, has said there will bo a great representation from Texas among the crew. The co-sponsors will be Mr. sisters, Mrs.

S. E. Bartley of Bonham and Mrs. A. Thomas of Dallas.

They will be in Newport News, Va. on Dec. 20 for the christening and launching ceremonies. And I am sure I speak for all people or our Fourth Congressional District Mr. district in saying that our prayers and good wishes go with the officers and men of the USS Sam Rayburn.
