It was stated Saturday, on apparently good authority, that Sunday the likes ftarre Water Company would begin to supply the people of this city onco more with water fresh from the Susquehanna river. This is due to the scare caused by the bad taste and worse smell of the water from the Huutsville reservoir, during the early part of the week. As a matter of fact there has been such a marked improvement the water dnring the past tew days that most people concluded they were not drinking fcuntsvilie water at all, but that the supply from that source bad been shut off ami Laurel iiun or Susquehanna water supplied instead. The Water Company managers have a way of keeping their own counsel so well that few people know what is beii'g done. All they do kaow is that since Friday the water they drink is very much moie agreeable both to the smell and taste.

There is a very general demand that the Huutsville dam be drained and cleaned out. This proposition should not be entertained for a moment. To draw the water off cow aud expose the decaying vegetation to the heat of the sun would bo certain to expose the people of wo or three townships to epidemic aud death. If that reservoir is to be drained, it must not be drained before the latter part of Oetolvr or November In the meantime, if necessary, let the water be taken from the river as was done for years without evilefiects. Eventually the water supply of this city will come from Huutsville.

The stream that feeds that reservoir is pure, aud it is possible to put the reservoir in condition to retain the natural purity of the water. Time may be but eventually the supply will be abundant and good. Theie can be no mis as to that. The company made a tremendous mistake in not properly preparing the reservoir before tiiliug it. To do so would have been economy, but it was not done, and the result is the present troubles.
