Dorrnxrka. The fee is 812 plus the cost of i unrtorm I needed at to ama of louuuesufl. For more Sikxiisaoon, eel Al liability, are inexplicable When the Phillies won 97 games that season, people did say it was a team with some age on it, but hat referred to everyday players such as Kruk, Dykstra and Daulton. The starting rotation appeared a long-term strength, with Schilling (then 26), Greene (26) and Rivera (25) combining for 45 wins. All those pitchers are down with shoulder injuries, and so is West, who showed promise when he joined the rotation last year.

Only Schilling is a good bet to bounce back. The others are through for this season, possibly forever. "I don't have an explanation for it," Thomas said. "We had a hecku-va team in "93. We put it together piece-by-piece (with veterans).

We didn't have many guys who came through the farm system, which may be part of it But it was not an old team. "Money was a factor. Some guys, like Terry and Danny, went for the big bucks. Inky signed for more money in Japan. When you win, it's hard to keep things together, because everyone wants more.

But this goes way beyond that with the injuries and all. "I don't believe in jinxes," Thomas said. "We knew (1993) was a season in which a lot of things went right for us. A number of players had career years, so maybe things are evening out I hate-to see it, though. It makes me sad, because it was a special group." pot oat ASanSl 54 33 J1 aprs a it in Montraai 43 4 43 12 Ronoa 36 4 423 17 raYi 15 53 t' Pot oa Cmomnel 54 32 827 Houston 60 37 73 4' Cmoajo 44 44 500 11 8t Loua ST 61 JUH 16 PleaOOh 33 60 41 1 pt oa Colorado a 3 57 Los'rgaas 46 42 417 I'.

San Dago 41 4 471 Th flanrnex-aoe 3 4 44 S'i DIDINGER, from Pago 15 back from shoulder surgery. Four players off the team are struggling tp stay alive in other cities. Dave Hollins is a bench player in Boston. Milt Thompson is hitting .202 for Houston. Lefties Danny Jackson and Terry Mulholland are a combined 4-20 with St Louis and San Francisco, respectively.

Mulholland, who won Game 2 of the World Series, has lost his last nine decisions. With his ERA at 7.06, Mulholland left the Giants Sunday to consider his future. Reports are that he might seek his release. Two years ago, Mulholland was a key man in the Phillies' rotation, ranking among the league leaders in ERA and complete games. He was the starting pitcher in the All-Star Game.

Before the next season, he was traded to the New York Yankees, bombed there and went to the Giants with his confidence in tatters. It was much the same story with Jackson, who won the pivotal Game 4 in the NLCS and was 14-6 when the strike hit last season. He signed a $10.8 million contract with the Cardinals last December and nothing has gone right for him since. Ten other members of the '93 Phillies are gone from the big leagues. Outfielder Wes Chamberlain, baseman Ricky Jordan, catcher Todd Pratt and third baseman Kim Batiste are in Triple A with other organizations.

Jordan has a bad shoulder and might never make it back. Chamberlain is fading fast in the Red Sox's chain. Larry AnderserJ is a pitcher and coach with Reading, the Phils' Dou ble A club, but at 42, he hardly pitches anymore. Outfielder Pete Incaviglia and pitcher Bobby Thig-pen are playing out the string in Japan. Williams retired earlier this season after a brief fling with California.

Kruk was a free agent who went unsigned until May when the foundering White Sox called. He played in 49 games and batted .308, but the chronic pain in his knees, aggravated by his excess weight, finally wore him down. Remember Roger Mason, the pitcher who was lifted from Game 6 of the World Series in favor of Williams, prompting the longest, loudest second-guess in Philadelphia baseball history? Mason is out of baseball, too, following his release bytheMets. We won't even get into Joe Mil-lette, Donn Pall, Juan Bell and others who dropped in for a cup of coffee in 1993. Only one parMimer, Bristol's Jeff Manto, went on to bigger things.

Manto has 13 home runs this season as an Oriole. Among those who stayed, only Morandini has prospered, maturing into an All-Star second baseman. Daulton and Stocker are playing far below their 1993 levels. Duncan and Ixmgrnire still are spare parts, while Eisenreich, the ronsummate pro, continues to grind out Bissbase hits. Some of what happened to the '93 Phillies was predictable, such as Kruk's decline as a thirtysomething player who let his body fall apart, and Williams's flameout, which was apparent that season.
