Environment Canada's weather predictions for noon Wednesday informal tests already have convinced them the house is safe lor them and their teen-age daughters-Morris noted about 50 Love Canal homeowners have decided not to move. Some, like retiree Gordon Stewart, say they cannot find equivalent homes elsewhere with the money they've been offered. Besides, Stewart observed, his neighborhood is several blocks away from the canaL In a neat single-level home two doors away, Barbara Baone was outspoken in her determination to stay. "We've lived here 21 years, and we have nothing to fear." she said, adding that her health and that of her husband and two grown children is "fine." 'Tor 21 years, we have had a garden with fabulous vegetables, apples, strawberries, grapes. We've never lost trees anything." A few blocks south, the discovery of dioxin.

one of the most deadly poisons known to man, led to construction of a fence around Black Creek. Florence Best has rented a "comfortable" house there for $250 a month since last July, she said. "We smell no chemicals. We're perfectly happy here. I don't have any fear whatsoever," she said, adding that she "would like to buy the house." Farther on in the midst of the boarded-up.

(AP) Some diehard Love Canal residents, determined not to leave their homes near a former toxic-waste dump, will shortly have new neighbors a state official and his family. "It is important for people promoting a project to have faith in their product and be a part of it," explained Richard Morris, executive director of the Love Canal Revital-ization Agency, whose family of four will become part of the neighborhood June 30. "I'm not moving into what I would say is a clear and present danger," Morris added. Chemical dump Located several hundred metres north of the filled-in canal that served as a dump for the Hooker Chemical Co. in the early 1950s.

Morris' prospective house is within the health emergency area designated by former president' Carter last year. It is one of about 500 such homes the federal government has offered to buy so the owners can move elsewhere. Morris, a state transportation department real-estate specialist. oversees the sales as part of his assignment to revitalize the area. Many of the more than 200 remaining property owners are awaiting the results, of tests carried out by the federal Environmental Protection Agency last year.

A state health department study earlier this month determined that cancer rates in the Love Canal area are not higher than cancer rates in the rest of the Niagara Falls area. The EPA report could come next month. Morris and his wife said Edmonton, Red Deer Today and Wednesday Mostly cloudy with one or two and highs near 18 today. Lows tonight near 8.
