Born in Bristol, England he moved with his parents to Montreal, Quebec and later moved to Calgary where he operated the Gayner Transport Co. for many years.

He served in the American Marine Corps prior to 1914 and served with the Calgary Highlanders overseas in the first World War. Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Edmund (Dorothy) Thielen, Milk River, Alberta, Mrs. Joseph (Lillian) Allen, Penhold, Alberta, Mrs. Harry (Evelyn) Modin, Swift Current, and Mrs.

Walter (Mary) Degner of Calgary. Seventeen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Alice Hahn of Los Angeles, California. Mr. Gayner was predeceased by a son Robert in 1940.
