NEWS-HERALD, Perkasi, Wednesday, Nov. 30, 1Q83 Pennridge Class Of '58 Holds 25th Reunion Was it really so long ago? Did Pat Boone really sing, "Love Letters in the Sand" and is Elvis really dead? Was Ike really President? I can only wish these grads the class of 1958 all the best. I hope we can all make it for the next reunion in 1988. half the things they wanted to do on that warm June night in 1958 when they received their diplomas? What images were recalled as these people met classmates of years ago? No doubt there were good times but what about the snubs and the rejections? -fey JOHN GERNER The Class of 1958 Pennridge High School held its 25th class reunion Saturday night at the Holiday Inn, Kulpsville. About SO graduates attended the affair, most with spouses.

icfnni cz not a member of the class, I did go because my wife was a grad. One of the neat things the organizers of the event did was to reproduce the photos from the yearbook and attach them to those cards you stick on your lapel. It was strange seeing my wife's photo from the yearbook. If anything, she. looks better now than that shy, quiet 17-year-old girl in the photo.

Most of the girls pictured look better as mature women. The guys seen smiling out at us from a quarter-century ago seem a bit heavier, in many cases with a receding hairline, but still looking fit. The group that gathered last Saturday night seemed to have mellowed, according to my wife. Although there was an open bar, business was not brisk. After dinner, two teachers, circa 1958, spoke.

John Diehl, who favored white bucks, now works for the Bank of New York and Charles Hollenbach, still a teacher at Pennridge High, made brief remarks. Of the teachers who taught the class 25-years ago, only nine are still on the faculty. Event organizers gave out Pennridge mugs as awards. A mug went to the person driving the oldest car (a '65 Corvair) most years at one job (24); most jobs held (20); most operations (5); most false teeth (5) and most spouses (3). Apparently "meaningful relations" didn't count.

Ten people raised their hands when asked if they were grandparents. After the awards presentation, many grads table-hopped to visit old friends or look over the souvenirs displayed on two tables in the corner. There were clippings from the News-Herald. From the "things never, change "A new drinking problem has arisen in Lake Lenape Park. An official said not only do people smuggle beer bottles in the park, they now bring it in by the keg.

Citizens however can feel comforted that the problem will not go unnoticed. Both (Perkasie) boro policemen are watching." The band rolled in their instruments about 9:30 and a short time later the music began. Most people continued talking and introduced spouses to former classmates. My wife remarked how nice many of the former leather jacket guys are now. They teach Sunday school and they are involved in activities they wouldn't imagine 25 years ago.

As an observer, I could only wonder about those grads who didn't make it to the reunion. There were 174 graduates on June 4, 1958, and only 50 here tonight. One could only wonder about these middle-aged people who were teenagers attending the Buxmont Record Hop every Saturday at Menlo Park. Were their dreams even partially realized?
