Houck, former member of the workmen's compensa. tlon board, who received a slight margin in the official count, won the first skirmishes.

Judge Roy P. Hicks denied petitions asking the court to order the ballot ooxes opened and a recount made in six wards in Shenandoah, one in Tamaqua and one in Mahanoy township. The court declared the were not correctly drawn, in that the petitioners were not residents of the precincts were not resi count was asked. In return, William Searer, Houck's opponent, contested the court had acted illegally in certiflying the primary count less than five days after 1 the count was completed. Searer late today asked a transcript of all testimony taken today, saying he planned to appeal the court's decisions to the state superior court.

PITTSBURGH OFFICIALS ACT ON CHARGES PITTSBURGH, Sept. 21 De velopments in the investigation of Allegheny county's primary election, in which independent Republicans charge an attempt to "count out" their candidate for commissioner, Charles McGovern, today jncluded: Appointment of a recount board; discovery of violations by the return board: dispatch of subpoenaes to all minority inspectors of election; announcement that valuable information on the conduct of the election is being supplied by volunteers; printed sheets of voting machines in 11 city districts ordered brought before the return board. The recount board, named by common pleas court, will recount ballots from various districts in the county and city after petitions have been presented asking such action. Fire which followed the explosion of an oil spraying machine today wrecked the huge export building of the Ford Motor company assembly plant at the foot of Lloyd street, and threatened the entire plant with destruction. One workman was blown across a room and badly burned In the blast. A fireman was also hurt as the five city fire companies, 20 from nearby towns, and the Ford company's own Are fighting force battled the blaze for more than four hours. Some Departments Closed As a result of the fire the export department and several smaller units of the plant were closed today, throwing 4,600 men out of work.
