It will mean; however, that pedestrians crossing Penn street will have to walk a little farther, but I'm sure that every citizen will be glad to sacrifice a little shoe leather for increased safety.

"Penn square is one of the widest thoroughfares in America. Many, many times elderly persons have complained to me that they are unable to cross the street before the traffic light changes and they become dangerously marooned in the center of a sea of automobiles and trucks. With this' new plan, the width of the Penn street crossings will be greatly reduced, consequently reducing the chances for accidents." Thinks It Worth Trial Giles said he studied the plan thoroughly with Mayor Ennentrout and that both were convinced it deserved a trial. "This administration has always been willing to try out any worthy plan which will work towards the safety and well being of citizens," said the commissioner. "We appreciate greatly the Interest and work of the Reading Architectural society and hope that the plan will meet with success.

Wants CitUeni' Reactions "I ask all motorists and pedestrians, after giving the new system a fair trial, to communicate with my office and. advise me whether they think it is an improvement. After all, the plan has been drawn up for the benefit of the citizens, and it is for them to Judge whether, or not they like it." Shortly after the first of next month the circle will be painted, the commissioner said, and when the system is ready for trial. standards wil also be placed around the inner circle so that motorists will not be confused. Extra police will be assigned to aid motorists in negotiating the turns.
