home in Brenham for the funeral services for George Neu who died Satur day at Sweetwater Mr Neu was taken ill while aboard the special train enroute to the Texas Press Association meet at El Paso and was taken from the' train after suffering a sroke of paralysis while enroute Georgs A Neu was born in Brenham December 20 1878 the son of Mr and Mrs Jacob Neu After attending the Brenham High School and Blinn Memorial College he secured employment with Hohlt Company in Brenham he worked 17 years In 1912 he formed a partnership with Joe and Will buy ing the Brsiiham Banner from Cot JohnG' publishing the Banner as an afternoon daily and weekly In 1913 he and associates bought the Brenham Daily Press a morning publication from George Tucker publishing his pa pers after that as the Daily and Wekly Banner Press In 1913 he organized and incor porated the Brenham Banner Pub lishing company and with the ac quisition of the Daily Press the business grew so fast that soon larger quarters were necessary A lot on Main street was purchased I a large two story brick buildingwith basement was erected and was (dedicated on August 11 when the corner stone was with impressive ceremonies Neu had acted as manager secre tary and treasurer of his publica tion since he and associates pur? chased it Mr Neu left Brenham Monday June 13 to attend the convention of the Texas Press Association at El Paso but was stricken while en rou: and was taken off the train at Sweetwater where he died His remains will be brought to Bren ham Sunday and the funeral held here Monday morning burial in Prairie Lea Cemetery Mr Neu was an active member of the ourth Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Brenham a member of the Brenham fire de partmtnt Club and Cham ber of Commerce He is survived by his wife who was Miss Minnie Moers of Hous ton one sister Mrs William Niebuhr of Brenham three broth ers Prof Neu of Austin Prof Neu of California and Herman Neu of Sinton He at tended every meeting of the Texas Press Association since he joined it ind the breeding places of mos quitoes and destroy them some good ways of doing this are: Drain small pools and puddles Clean out and straighten ditches and clean Her husband Sandifer was a member of Brigade go ing out for service with the first company from Waco Texas A cablegram from Miss Martha Rivers Alien and Mrs Martha Willis members of the Armstrong touring party from Texas for sum mer travel in Europe brought the good news Saturday afternoon of their safe landing at Liverpool England after a pleasant voyage Miss Lillie Belle Gilpin is recu perating at the home of her aunt and unde Mr and Mrs I A Cloud in this City after undergo ing a slight opt ration upon her ankle at Bryan hospital recently BOY SCOUTS ARE ASSIGNED TO ACCOMPANY CONED ERATE VETERANS As the remaining veterans of Texas Brigade and Green's Brigade of the Confederate Army are assembling within our gates today to participate in annual re union the people of Bryan and special attendant for every veteran and whenever or wherever he may want to go his Boy Scout Wijl be for him ears and if necessary Every automobile in Bryan will be sub ject to the call of these Boy Scouts and the people are hereby put on notice so they may understand and respond to every call for these I When a Boy Scout with his aged friend hails a car stop and take them in and drive them to
