H3. ay the North American Hollywood, April 19 Bit players have suddenly gone in for a lot ot heavy spring cleaning, and established actors are sputtering over the dust thrown back in their faces. In half a ozen pictures previewed here since the first of the month, it is the unknown or little-heard-of performer who has registered some of 1 the most impressive moments.

Take the case of Ferike Boros and the one day's work she did before the cameras in "Love Affair," vhich co-stars Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer. The bit lasted just me minute on the screen, and yet moved Ferike Boros over from the ranks of screen-actor relief to those of the employed. Her bit as the landlady, her one scene with Miss Dunne, is being greeted with audience cheers and flattering notices from the critics. Carson Kanin, directing Ginger Rogers in "Little Mother, heard so much discussion about the bit, he went to see the picture and en recast his picture in order to get I her into it. And, already she yped.

Ferike will play another landlady role but it's a very fat one this time. On Screen Relief There's an interesting story be hind the struggle of Ferike Boros to gain a place in the Hollywood sun. This town once knew her well and favorably then completely forgot her. Star of the Hungarian stage, she came to this country and was featured for sev eral years on Broadway. Caught by the lure of the talkies, she was drawn to Hollywood in 1930 and quickly became a character actress on popular call at all studios.

Three years ago, she suffered a bad fall, resulting in a hip injvry that re quired much attention from high- priced specialists. Her money was soon gone. She let her servants go and finally was forced to accept screen relief, getting 510 a week on which to subsist. "I sold everything but Berta's paintings," said Miss Boros, discussing her rediscovery with re trained excitement. "All my treasures from abroad.

My candelabra that cost $900 went for $70. My gold cabinet brought $50. Even my house was mortgaged, and then ate up the mortgage. But I had to keep the roof." The "Berta" of whom she speaks is Mme. Bertha Kalich, famous Yiddish actress of the New York stage, with whom she was long associated i the "Kreutzer Sonata" and other plays.

"Hollywood, it is a funny place," said Miss Boros, who is now close tc 60. "Think of all I've done, all I've played here and abroad and now they go crazy over a bit:" Stevenson Favorite Appearing at Kinema "Kidnarmed." founded on Robert Louis Stevenson's famed story, starts at the Kinema theatre today with Warner Baxter, Freddie Bartholomew and Arleen Whelan.
