16 Oneonta Star Thursday, Dec. 7, 1961 Early Fire Levels Home Muthigs Flee Into Cold as House Burns STAMFORD (Special! A Stamford farmer, his a two young sons were driven into early morning cold yesterday when then- home was destroyed by fire of unknown origin. Mr. and Mrs. W-llnm Muthig.

whose farm is located on the River Road abtrat two miles south of Stamford, grabbed thrir clothing, wrapped their two boys ages two and four in blankets, and ran from their home which was without electric and phone service, Mrs. Muthig said she told her husband she heard one of children coughing about 3:30 a.m., went into their room and i covered it filled with smoke. Mr. Muthig was obliged to try three different homes of i liters before he fnund a phone in order to summon the Stamford fire department, According to Mrs. Muting the family lost everything in the fire which destroyed their home.

Mr. Muthig made an attempt to retrieve some farm records a about $300 in cash but was forced back by the flames, which, could be clearly seen three miles distant in Hobart. Mrs. Mulhig said the property was partially covered by insurance. In order to save the barn, Stamford firemen were at the scene for four hours.

and Mrs Kenneth Salisbury and sons Galm and Jeffrey ot Corning were callers on Air. and Mrs. i Jesse Shepard, I Area Deaths Erastus J. Bailey COOPERSTOWN Erastus J. Bailey, "89, formerly of Coopers town, died Tuesday, December 5th in Utica after a long illness, Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.

Saturday, December 9 at Ingalls Funeral Home Cooperstown with Rev. Melvin Dorr, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Sehenectady officiating. Burial will be in Harhvick Seminary Cemetery. He was born Sep. 1, 1872 at Middlefield, the son of Albert and Sedilla (Thayer) Bailey.

He married Nellie May Wyckoff Sep. 1, 1898. Mr. Bailey was a printer by trade and member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Scnene- ctady. Surviving besides his wife; five sons, Douglas Harold Ralph all of Schenectady, Ronald Ohio and Alben Scotia; one daughter Miss Marjorie Bailey, Jersey City, N.J.

and several grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Onslow L. Brown STAMFORD Onslow i Brown, 50, ol Stamford, died suddenly at his home December 5. Funeral services will be 3 p.m; Saturday at the Stamford, Methodist Church.

The Rev. William Phinney, pastor, will officiate. A service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in Vergennes, Vt. Graveside Masonic services will follow.

Burial will be in Vergennes. He was born June 20, 1911 in Vergennes, the son of Levi H. and Esther H. Brown He married 0ara Eleanor Jay on December 23, 1934 in gennes. He was a graduate of the Vergennes schools and received his BS at the University of Vermont.

Mr. Brown was a member of the Stamford Methodist Church; president of the board ol trustees of the church; past Deacon of the Norwich Methodist Church; was a 32nd degree Mason a Shriner, former Grand i Priest for the state of Vermont. He was an alderman in Vergennes and Norwich; a member of area sports clubs and of the Delaware County Historical Society. He is survived by his wife; a daughter Diana, Coxsackie, and a son Levi, a senior at UVM. Friends may call at the Spoor Funeral Home, Stamford at their convenience.

Blooniville Neivs Mrs. Charles Hunt 7112 Fred Cleveland, Sr. has returned from Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, where he underwent surgery. Kenneth Sargent, three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs.

Clifford Sargent has returned from the same hospital where he has been under treatment. Mrs. David Roberts, instructor in the second grade at Bloomville school, ha received word of the birth of a granddaughter, Susan Diane Roberts, at Pittsburgh. Parents are Mr. and Mrs.

Richard. Roberts. Charles Smith, a senior at SUCO in Oneonta, is practice teaching in second grade at Andes. Mr. and Mrs.

William Askew entertained Mr. and Mrs. Hillis Middletown; Mr. and Mrs. Domonick Vescovi, Bloomville, and Mr.

and Mrs. Joseph Ada Bermudez, New York, and Dr. Julio Anduze, Hatillo, Puerto Rico, were also guests at the Askew home and spent the remainder ot the week with Mr. and Mrs. Vescovi.

Mrs- William Sheffield COOPERSTOWN-Mrs, William Sheffield, 54, of Cooperstown, died December 6 at Bassett Hospital after a long illness, Funeral services will be at 3 p.m, Saturday at Christ Church, Cooperstown. The Rev. George French, rector of Christ Church, will officiate. She was born March 29, 1907, in Winnipeg, Canada, the daughter ot Gilbert and Marian (Lyall) Corke, She was married to William Sheffield in 1946.

She was a member of Christ Church; Cooperstown Womans Club and the Study Club. She was a graduate of the University of Manr itoba, Canada. Mrs. Sheffield practiced medicine in Hobart from 1934 until 1946. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Ann, Cooperstown; a son, John, Cooperstown; her father and mother, Canada; two sisters, Mrs.

Earl Warren, Canada; Mrs. Walter McCord, Canada; one brother, J. B. Corke, Canada. The family will be in attendance at Tillapaugh Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m.

Coroner Rules On Death in Leonardsville PLAINIELD-Dr. Joseph Phelps, Otsego County Coroner, issued a verdict of suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in the death of Raymond John Jadwick, 38, of Leonardsville.

The body was found early Wednesday afternoon by his sister, Mrs. Olga Furmanski. State police said that Mr. Jadwick was recently despondent. The body was removed to the Drejza Funeral Home, Utica.
