That's generally the main activity starting the third day of a curlfest and it doesn't take long to have the old noggin going round and round, like those cul ling stones on the ice, before the list is cut to a dozen or less. And then the main sport is to find out where the un- beaten rinks tangle, for there's the main attraction till the rinks get down to the jewelry stage of a bonspiel, sometime today or early Friday morning. The plan is to bill most of the final matches for Saturday night. The unbeaten rinks are found in the two lead-off events the MacLeod Bros, competition and the Wilson Electric trophy play for as long as they keep winning in thes3 they are not drawn in any of the other eight elimination events. The prize list also includes trophies for grand aggregate and aggregate for visiting curlers.

The real curling thrills start with the meetings of the undefeated, and the rinks that can get through a curlfest with one, and sometimes two setbacks, nearly always cop the aggregate. Showing Fine Progress As the 45th annual bonspiel nf the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, Alberta branch, swung into its fourth dap of play this morning, draw secretary Cordon Habkirk was well pleased with the progress made by using all of the city's 29 sheets of curling ice in nine daily draws. In three days, close to 800 games have been played, with many tons of stone sent skidding over smooVii sheets of pebbled ice. Just how many hundred miles of sweeping went into those games can't be figured, but had the 952 curlers attending the Calgary 'spiel been steered onto Calgary side-- walks instead, there wouldn't be a particle of snow underfoot. Curlers do a thorough sweeping job.

Gordon Habkirk lias been using all of the 29 sheets of fee at his disposal. The only time during the day or night that there hasn't been curling action nt the Clencoe, Calgary, 1 North Hill clubs or in Victoria Arena has been from 6:30 a.m.-to the start of the o'clock draw each morning. That's only an hour and a half rest, bui the ice doesn't mind and the curlers seem to like it. Footnotes VISITING CURLERS are taking a leading hand in the quest for bonspiel honors at the 45th annuol Calgary curlfest. In the above picture A.

E. Ellis of Lacombe (right), assists his sweepers in bringing a stone into the house. Skip of the opposing rink, Andy Lennox, of Innisfail, looks on. Good progress is being mgde in the 'spiel and the annual quest for trophies will windup on Saturday. Late Marker Boosts Draw secretary Gordon Habk.rk figures the K.C.C.C.

Flyers bounced one point ahead of Regina Capitals in a 4-3 thriller. But the one-point margin Fly ers hold over Caps may not last long since Caps have two games in hand. Caps also have been atop the league most of the sea son.

With less than two minutes to play in the game, Morey Rim- tad tipped in the winning counter. Caps pulled out net- minder Bev Brntley and added a forward, but they failed to knot the count. THE EXECUTIVE will decide on the question of holding spring pointer and setter trials and spaniel championship trials.

The amateur handlers' trials last year were so successful it was agreed to continue this event. No date was set. Also under discussion was a suggestion for a national championship trial in Alherta. perfect scores are booked to meet each other. Hart Mclvor of the Glencoe club and Alex Rankin, Calgary club, meet this morning and one or the other will drop from the charmed Circle.

OTHER UNDEFEATED rinks drawn at 8 a.m. are skipped by Frank Wolfe and Bob Edwards of Edmonton: Art Simpson. Bassano. and Mac Hollonquist of Red Deer. Rinks with a straight series of wins to their credit are headed by Hube Gooder of Olds.

Andy Gore of Swalwcll and W. Gatowski Daysland. Draw Secretary Gordon Habkirk was well pleased with the progress made over the first three complete days of the R.C.C.C., Alberta Branch, 'spiel and many of the big games leading to the prize list will hold the curling interest today BY NOON WEDNESDAY the main bonspiel interest centred on the undefeated rinks as Hube Good er, Olds, kept on the winning trail in the Macleod Bros, event by de feating W. Colston, Calgary, 9-7 while Earl Dingle, Edmonton scored 10-7 over Verne Aarsby, Carstairs, to keep his winning record intact. It was through the early after noon draw on Wednesday that the unbeaten skippers started toppling from the list when rinks with perfect records tangled and one of the curling quartets was doomed to suffer setbacks, BILL McLAWS.

Glencoe club, who skipped the Alberta represen tatives in the Dominion championship Brier event last year, dropped his first game to Art Simpson, Bas sano, who kept on the winning trail by an 11-8 verdict. It was the same story in another Wilson Electric competition with Alex Rankin, Cal gary club, gaining an 8-6 success against L. J. Whilhite, Claresholm. as another unbeaten rink stayed in the aggregate running and one dropped his first game Also in the Wilson Electric of the 1 p.m.

draw, Frank Wolfe, Edmonton, remained undefeated scoring 12-6 against George Ralph, North Hill. THE 3:30 DRAW toppled Earl Dingle, Edmonton, from the unbeaten list but four skips kept hanging up the victories in the Wilson Electric competition. Dingle took his first defeat, an 8-7 reverse, when he met E. C. Le- Neveu.

The Hart Mclvor curlers from the Glencoe club kept rolling right along by doubling the score on Jack Diamond, Calgary, in hanging up a 10-5 success. Hube Gooder, Olds, had a narrow call but chalked up a 7-6 score on J. W. Collins of Macleod. IT WAS AN equally close call for Mac Hollonquist.

Red Deer, when he edged J. M. Wilton, Leth-bridge, 6-5. Andy Gore of Swal-well, kept his string of victories intact with a 10-9 decision over A. E.

Ellis, Lacombe. One extra end contest found its wav into the 3:30 afternoon draw on Wednesday when Dr. Y. Blaney, High River, scored two in the overtime to down George Kerl, Botha, 10-8, in the A. P.
