MLB Tuesday, August 28, 2018 Rodon, White Sox keep rolling with 6-2 win over Yanks By SCOTT ORGERA The Associated Press NEW YORK The surging New York Yankees appear to have help on the way. All-Star slugger Aaron Judge participated in baserunning and fielding drills for about a half hour Monday at Yankee Stadium under the watchful eye of team staff, and Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius also made progress in their recoveries from injuries for New York, which is a season- best 36 games over .500. gradually starting to introduce some baseball-type manager Aaron Boone said of Judge. feels like, hopefully, improving a little The towering right fielder has not swung a bat since July 26, the night he fractured his right wrist after being drilled by Kansas Jakob Junis. Despite sporting a .188 batting average with 14 homers in what has been a disappointing season for the 25-year old backstop, a rejuvenated Sanchez could provide another major power threat down the stretch. BILL ASSOCIATED PRESS Chicago White Nicky Delmonico (30) hits a sacrifice fly to score a run as New York Yankees catcher Kyle Higashioka, left, looks on during the sixth inning Monday, at Yankee Stadium in New York. By SCOTT ORGERA The Associated Press NEW YORK Carlos Rodon pitched two-hit ball over seven innings, Yoan Moncada doubled in two and the surging Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 6-2 on Monday night for their fourth straight win. Rodon (6-3) allowed a two- run shot to Gleyber Torres but was strong otherwise, and bullpen closed out a three-hitter. The White Sox have won 10 of 13 and clinched their first winning month of the season by improving to 15-10 in August.

Rodon is 5-0 with a 1.84 ERA in his past nine starts. The 25-year-old left-hander lost since June 30. New York (83-48) missed an opportunity to gain ground on the idle Red Sox, falling 6 games back of the AL East leaders. Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka (9-5) dodged trouble early, including a no-out, bases- loaded jam in the fourth. Tanaka fanned Matt Davidson on three pitches and got Omar Narvaez to chase a two-strike slider.

Moncada hit a sharp grounder that deflected off the mound and part of glove right to the shortstop, Torres, who threw to first to end the threat. Chicago broke through in the sixth on a mix of luck and timely hitting. With one out, Palka tapped a broken-bat dribbler up the third base line for a single. After a walk to Davidson, Narvaez made contact on a check swing that rolled less than halfway toward third for another infield hit. Moncada then grounded a two-run double into right-center field to tie it at 2.

Nicky Delmonico followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Narvaez for a 3-2 advantage. Yolmer Sanchez led off the seventh with a single to left that was misplayed by Shane Robinson, letting Sanchez advance to second. Tim Anderson then doubled, scoring Sanchez and adding to lead. Tanaka allowed four runs and matched a career high with ten hits over seven innings. Anderson brought home Adam Engel in the ninth on an error by first baseman Luke Voit and later scored on a wild pitch.

Torres broke a scoreless tie in the fourth by crushing an 0-1 changeup an estimated 444 feet over the center field wall into Monument Park, scoring Miguel Andujar with his 20th home run. Andujar and Torres are the first pair of rookies in Yankees history to reach that mark. GO GODZILLA Former Yankees slugger Hideki Matsui was honored before the game, presented with sterling silver cuff links in honor of his induction as the youngest member of the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame. Looking sharp in a blue suit sans tie, the 2009 World Series MVP flashed a big smile and waved while receiving a warm ovation from the crowd. SPEED IN SCRANTON The Yankees signed outfielder Quintin Berry and assigned him to Triple-A Barre.

The 33-year-old has stolen 29 bases in 132 big league games, most notably serving as a pinch-running specialist for world champion Boston in the 2013 postseason. ROOM Yankees: Gary Sanchez (strained right groin) homered on the first pitch he saw to kick off a rehab assignment with Triple-A. RF Aaron Judge (fractured right wrist) participated in baserunning and fielding drills Monday but has yet to swing a bat or throw a ball at full intensity. Judge improving but not swinging, Sanchez on rehab for Yanks HR streak ends at 7 as Orioles blank Blue Jays 7-0 The Associated Press BALTIMORE Kendrys Morales had his home run streak snapped at seven games by the Baltimore Orioles, who ended an eight- game skid by defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 7-0 on Monday night.

Striving to tie the major league record of homering in eight straight games, Morales went 0 for 3 with a walk and did not hit the ball out of the infield. In his final chance, the Toronto slugger swung through a slider from Paul Fry to strike out in the eighth inning. Though he failed to match the mark shared by Dale Long, Don Mattingly and Ken Griffey Morales owns the big league record for successive games with a home run by a switch-hitter. He also owns the franchise record for consecutive games with a long ball. Facing Baltimore rookie David Hess, against whom he homered last week, Morales struck out in the first inning, grounded out in the fourth and drew a four- pitch walk in the sixth.

Hess (3-8) tossed six innings of four-hit ball to earn his first win since May 25. He was 0-7 in his previous 12 starts, though he did pitch very well against Toronto his last time out. The game was scoreless until the Orioles broke through in the sixth against Sam Gaviglio (3-7). After Chris Davis drove in a run by hitting into a choice with the bases loaded, Trey Mancini hit a three-run homer to send Baltimore on its way to its first win since Aug. 18.

Mancini added a two-run double in the seventh and scored on a single by Tim Beckham. The five RBIs for Mancini matched his career high. The Orioles improved to 2-12 against Toronto. SURPRISE STREAK Morales endured an 0-for-29 skid in May and had only 14 homers on Aug. 14 before launching his improbable streak.
