The Ills; Sewer Started. Work on the big sewer was begun yester day morning at the river bank. The work has been postponed from time to time for various reasons and all that could be done by the competent sewer committee of Coun cil, with Mr. Patten at the head, could not hurry it In the least. The work, however, was begun yesterday at a point about fifty feet below the bridge.

About twenty men began to dig into the bank to start for a point seven leet under low water mark. This will be oi solid masonry and will form tho mouth of the sewer. From this point the trench was dug across the bunk to the center of Market street and will theuco proceed in a btralght line up Mnr kot atroel, around the north and east sides of Public fequure und out East Murket street to Cauui street. The trench will be 9 feet wide and from 20 to 25 feec deep along the whole line. Tue work is a vast one and will take many months to com plete it.
