Nielsen Thomas A. Matthews Attorneys at Law MAKING A MAJOR ASSUMPTION When defendants are sued over negligence that resulted in another person's injury, they may defend themselves against liability by establishing that the injured party assumed the risk for the injury. Thus, the assumption of risk defense may negate the wrongdoer's negligence. To establish -this defense, the wrongdoer must prove that the injured person was aware of and understood the specific danger involved. In addition, it must be shown that the injured party voluntarily exposed him or herself to the danger that resulted in an injury.

Then, even if the risk were negligently created by the wrongdoer, he or she would not be considered proximate cause of any resulting injury, and the injured party could not recover damages. For liability to exist in a personal injury case, it must be proved that the wrongdoer's conduct was what led to the injury. What you don't know about your legal rights can hurt you and your family. Here at 9812 E. Grand River in Brighton, we handle matters involving personal injury, auto accidents, wrongful death claims, slips falls, disability, civil probate.

Concern over the mountain of merchandise pushed on the young is not new. What "The Merchants of Cool" does is painstakingly document how sellers reach young buyers and, in doing so, shape (or misshape) youth culture. Guided by media analyst Douglas Rushkoff, the program hones in the role market researchers, entertainers and a few key corporations play in affecting adolescent choices and behavior. Much is at stake: Last year, America's 33 million teen-agers spent $100 billion and had a say in how their parents spent another $50 billion, according to the documentary. That's guilt money provided by LOTTERY parents in lieu of time, according to observers quoted in the program.

That simplistic assessment aside, the follow-the-money path charted by "The Merchants of Cool" is fascinating and unnerving. It's a circular route controlled by a handful of diversified corporations, including Viacom, parent company of MTV, the program says. Companies rely on market researchers to discover what's, hot among youngsters, then create an integrated sales package of music, movies, TV shows and products that adhere to and feed the trend and sales. The danger of such exploitation runs deeper than a teen-ager's pocket, imperiling society itself, Rushkoff says. 3-5-0 thirty-three) (three, five, zero) Keno Daily 4 8.
