1 5 In Memoricm Deaths THt CALGARY HERALD rnJav. lAlarm Sent Out Dec 27, 1963j5fcycwsof) fofeS Johnson Concerned By Cyprus JOHNSON CITY Tpv lAPt f. 1 Himself 'Unlikely' Pick By Johnson r.LOOMINCTON. Ill (AP)-Ad'ai K. Stevenson dismissed Thursday the possibility that he vniikl be President Johnson's! running mate next year, saying i' us "very unlikely" that John-; son will want him In a holiday visit to Bloom-ington, SUvtnson repeated to reporters his willingness to run if a iked "i would want to do what-! ever he i President Johnson); wished." But.

he added about! running for vice-president: 'T can't say that this is a burning ambition with me." I Stevenson, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said he is "perfectly content minding that shop (the UNi and paying! attention to that job "Moreover, I think it's very unlikely that President Johnson -would want me to be his running mate." he added without elaboration. If yon just won't buy the concept ot ('DC sporadic 'nur-part Show From Tw Cities series, that's the end it. If you will, the second Show, seen on Channel 2. ''hristmas Day, was fair to middling.

The music, dancing and choreography were Rood and it was a well -staqed extravaganza. The allegedly amusing, weren't. The Two Cities, of course, art Toronto and Montreal. Each Show (two more to follow in the new year) is half in French, half in English another attempt to force-feed us biculturalism. The idea of introducing us In some of the French-Canadian entertainers strikes me as hcing a good one.

hut I'll leave the broader issue of biculturalism to the editorial department. A bilingual show has to be highly visual. If the entertainers want to dance, that's fine. You can dance in any language. As luck, and hard work, would have it.

the on Wednesday's show were imaginative and quite diverting. And the contingent from the other side of the language harrier proved to be sufficiently animated that it wasn't always necessary to understand what they were singing about. The choice of songs from My Fair Lady was a happy one. The music is well enough known that it wasn't entirely necessary that you know the lyrics (as sung in French). On the other hand, an overdrawn skit wherein a lovely young creature tells jokes (in French into a telephone has to ieavc you cold if you don't know Trench.

Also, of course, a lot of it was altogether too cute. Twin Santa Clauses, for instance. In several instances, it was a case of the performers trying to surmount an indifferent script. No. this Two Cities experiment hasn't been what you would call an unquilified success.

Some aren't going to watch ii on general principles. Others who do watch it may find themselves getting bored. The people in charge undoubtedly- have good intentions. Foreign affairs dominated Pres ident Johnson's activities today as he kept watch on the Cyprus I crisis and prepared for talks) ith Chancellor Ludwig Erhard of West Germany. Erhard is the first major European leader to hold full-scale talks with the new U.S.

president. He flies in to Houston this afternoon and begins two days of conferences at the LBJ Ranch Saturday. The White House made public Thursday a series of personal messages in which Johnson appealed for a quick halt to "this terrible fraternal strife" between Turks and Greeks on Cyprus. In letters to Archbishop Mak-arios, president of Cyprus, Vice-President Fazil Kutchuk, and Patrick Cemal G.irsel of Turkey, Johnson pledged complete support for any reasonable action to halt the Cypriot bloodletting. Stassen May Run In GOP Stakes PHILADELPHIA (AD -Harold E.

Stassen said he was one of several possible candidates Eisenhower has Esked to enter the race to give the Republican party the widest selection possible. Stassen said he would not announce his intentions until next month.
