By Janine Bilotti A lawsuit has been filed by the Point Pleasant Council and a Citizens Action Committee to declare a public hearing in which a health board approved a plan to replace the emergency room at Point Pleasant Hospital with a 24-hour urgent care center null and void.

The suit is scheduled to be heard in court on May 18. The matter will be heard at 9 a.m. before Superior Court Judge William H. Huber at the Ocean County Courthouse in Toms River. The complaints were filed against South Central Health Planning Council Local Advisory Board No.

3 (LAB) in an effort to invalidate actions taken at an April 7 public meeting during which the advisory board supported the Meridian Health System's proposal to change Point Pleasant Hospital from an acute care facility to a rehabilitative and long term care facility. The LAB also supported consolidating the emergency room at Point Hospital with the Brick Hospital in Brick Township.
