The weather bureau said warm air moving in from the Gulf of Mexico over land of a cooler temperature produced the fog. At 8:30 p.

Galveston reported one-mile visibility because of fog, Houston, three-fourth mile and Beaumont, one-fourth mile. Otherwise, Texas enjoyed the spring-like weather that showed signs of becoming permanent. Some ind was reported in West Texas during the afternoon, reaching speeds of from 20 to 25 miles per hour in the Lubbock and Childress areas at mid-afternoon. Only Galveston reported precipitation during the past 24 hours, ending at 6:30 p. m.

Wednesday, and that was a meager .02 inch. Temperatures ranged from the high maximum of 89 at Laredo to the low' maximum reading of 65 at Galveston. Marval Hellv Caprice Susy Delair Marval Raymond Souplex Oseiile Norman her audience called her after her smashing debut, for a reason not made quite clear and which makes no difference anyway, for not much of the madcap comedy of the same title does make sense.

But, Suzy Delair in the title role as the chanteuse and with Louis Jouvet as her old friend and manager, it does make an hour and a half of delightful entertainment. For Mile, uses it with telling effect, whether she is selling a song or wheedling a tune out of composer Henri Gui- sol, and Jouvet was, until his recent and untimely death, one of the most talented character actors of the generation. Parlayed with the Parisian tunes and Gallic hu mor, they form quite a combination indeed. If the story fails to make sense, so does the code by which those characters who inhabit the Parisian Tin-Pan-Alley live, as viewed by scripter Henri Jeanson, but it all tickles the risibilities. The composer has written a song which touts the pleasures of springtime but which has brought ill luck to all who have sung it.

To get rid of it, and of Mile. Delair, he gives it to her, and of course she makes I of both it and her an immediate success. It is still a thing of evil, however, and its spell affects a number of others, including singer Raymond Souplex, who loses not only his public but his voice and 4,000 francs. But is also brings ro- I mance to singer and composer, who overcome their childhood dislike of each other, and it does result in some shoes being misplaced. The whole is encased in an altogether winning atmosphere of Bohemian street and backstage life with its clamorous arguments, its theatrical people, its musicians and comedians who are eccentric without trying hard to be funny.

Shining through it all as a little gem is Mile. Delair, and Jouvet reflects a certain dignity for all his assumed peculiarity, and they are given some superb assistance by Guisol as the composer, Souplex as the matinee idol is getting heavy and his voice thin, Jane Marken as wife who understands him and Jane Hellv as wife who does not. The dialog is French, of course, with English subtitles. Garrison Asks Increase For Texas Patrol AUSTIN, Feb. Homer Garrison director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Wednesday asked the legislature to boost the highway patrol to 600 men and restore the agency's narcotics division.

Garrison urged the House Appropriations subcommittee on state departments to increase the highway patrol by 130 men to meet least one-half the minimum The state police chief also asked for longevity pay for employes of his department, which he estimated would cost an additional $198,000. Garrison urged reviving the narcotics division, which he said had been stricken from appropriations in 1939. The division would be composed of a chief, six inspectors and one secretary.
