COURIER NEWS Arkansas in Washington BT GORDON' BROWN WASHINGTON </P>— Residents 'if 10 states carried to Congress yesterday a plea that It approve a long-cherished dream — a highway along (lie Mississippi River from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Such a highway, about 2,000 miles long, was recommended to Congress last January by the Bureau of Public Roads ana the National Park Service. Actively hacking 'the proposal before a House Public Works hearing today Is the Mississippi River Parkway Planning Commission, headed by A. P. Orecnsfclder ot St. Louis and including residents of all 10 states in the river valley. Grcens- lelder, known ns pilot for the group, was scheduled as its principal witness at the hearing. Rep. Trimble of Arkansas, a member of the committee, Is supporting the legislation.
