Working towards her Masters degree, she attended Columbia University, New York City, William and Mary college, Williamsburg, and finally the Univers ity of North Carolina, where thi diploma was awarded in 193G. She holds the Virginia collegia certificate, which is a cerlilicalioi from Ihc Virgiria Board of Educa- lon that she is qualified to teach in junior colleges. Before accepting the position as principal of Leaksvillc High school, she was laboratory Instructor in chemistry at William and Mary college. Miss Smith Is a member of the Episcopal church, While in school she was active in sports, being a member of the hockey, swimming, and track teams. She lias a Red Cross life saving emplem.

The educator is a of Cappa Delia Pi, an honorary edu- alional fraternity, and the Quill drivers club, a literary society.
