(HIKl HI Calgary Man Tells Reporter Why a Farmer Is Popular, "You have observed, of course, that farmers are nearly always popular? queried a man on the streets to-day. "When a political party looks for a strong candidate, It usually selects a farmer, because farmers are popular. "Farmers are popular because they do not unfairly ebuse each other. Far mers are not envious of other far mers. Tney rip into town men, oc casionally, but they are always fair with each other, "Town men hate each other as hear tily as doctors.

When a town man attracts a little attention, or wins a llttl success, other town men "jump" him, and say he Is "the worst overrated man In America." If he makes a little money, his neighbors Intimate rather broadly that he stole it. When a farmer becomes prominent, he Is begged to run for office, But If a town man gains political distinction, he is compelled to work night and day, and overcome opposition from ail sorts of combinations against him. "When any man, town man or far mer, is entitled to credit, it should oe given him cheerfully. The men who gain distinction are the men who blaze the trail In the worlds progress. Every noted man has done more foi the world than a thousand of his critics.

The loafer who stands on the street and 'picks' at a busy man who Is really trying to accomplish results, should attract a blow from a good stout hickory club, but he usually attracts applause." Life Would Have More Happiness IF THE LIVER WERE KEPT ACT- IVE BY THE USE OF DR. CHASE'S KIDNEY-LIVER PILLS Most people realize that, if they could only avoid the sufferings of in digestion and keep the bowtls regular and active life would have for them much more of comfort and happiness. We believe I that these results are best accomplished by the use of Dr. Chase's Kidney-Liver Pills, and let us tell you why: It Is the liver which, by filtering bile from the blood and passing is Into the Intestines, ensures good digestion and the natural, healthful action of the bowels. Keep the liver active, and you are sure of the proper working of the digestive and excretive systems.

Dr Chase's Kidney-Liver Pills have a direct and specific action on the liver By Invigorating this great filtering or gan they guarantee the collection of bile from the blood, where It Is poison and the paging of It to the Intestines where It is necesary for digestion and a proper action of the Dowels. It Is not as a mere rlW from In digestion and constlpitlon that Dr. Chase's Kidney-Liver Pills are recom mended, but as a thorough and last ing cure. Put them to the test. The dose is one pill at bed time a often as is necessary to the bowels regular.

Mr. Duncan McPherson, Content, writes: "I was for many years troubled with Indigestion and head ache and derived no benefit from the many remedies I used. A friend ad vised thn use of Dr. ChaBe's Kidney Liver Pills and after taking four boxes the result Is that I am once more In full enjoyment of the blessings of good health." MALE ANGELS. Gutzon Borglum, sculptor of the "Angle of the Annunciation" and of the "Angle of the Resurrection," which were Intended to have adorned the walls of the great cathedral of St. John the Divine, at Morningstde Heights, New rk, announced yesterday that he had destroyed the two figures. Mr. Borglum did so because of a dispute which had arisen as to whether the figures should be masculine or feminine.

The sculptor had created his conceptions of the two angels in the form of women and his work had been sharply crltlelzen on that score. Mr. Borglum said that he had received a final opinion from one of the church authorities that the figures must be masculine, and he added: "I went to the cathedral yesterday, and with a chisel and mallet smashed the angels Into bits. Although I have done nothing In the last year irto which I have put more care and tbiught, and although I felt like the vet lest vandal in thus completely ig what I knew to be works of beauty and power, I did so to put a stop to a useless discussion, and to prevent any use being made of the figures other than had been originally I am absoluteiyastounded that any clergyman could stancl In the presence of thirty or forty Images of a purely religious and spiritual character and see nothing in them but sex, and now that the whole unpleasant matter is over, I am Just as sure as ever that the feminine side of our race must ever continue to be the chief source of artistic Inspiration, and will bo remain, absolutely unaltered by all pedantic controversies." OFF BITS OF COLOR IN SMALL PARAGRAPHS We often hear this: "He says (so and so), but he's surh a liar, I don't know whether to believe it or A woman's Idea of a pretty wrap is one that she can put on and wear down town without changing her clothes. "I haven't much sense," a man said today, "but I have too much sense to buck a slot machine or a barrel of whiskey." If real girls were as splrituelle and ethereal as the poetry girls, one mos quito would drain them dry and then starve to death.

One of the compensations to a wo man in being a good cook is that her men folks don't remember It so often If she Is not good looking. The "Don't Say Anything About It- people are pretty bad around a newspaper office. It happened last evening that seven men of small stature gathered at a local shoe shop, and their talk was all about little men whipping big ones. One of the economies to a woman that comes with years Is that she doesn't need as many hairpins. Some men't remlniscencles are real ly confessions.

Some men are so tied down at home that they can cause a sensation by going Into a restaurant and ordering a meal. "Somehow, I Feel Foolish," Is the title of a late popular song. A pretty man usually thinks of his looks, and neglects hla commercial af fairs. Of course you have remarked that every monkey seems to sit around too much. About the only kick we have on fall Is that we run across so much foot ball stuff In the papers.
