"I had been sick and miserable so long and had caused my husband so much trouble and expense, no one seemed to know what ailed me, that I was completely disheartened and discouraged. In this frame of mind I got a bottle of Hop Bitters and used them unknown to my family.

I soon began to improve and gained so fast that my husband and family thought it strange and unnatural, but when I told them what had helped ine, they said "Hurrah for Hop Bitters long maj they prosper, for they have made mother well and us happy." The Mother, Home Journal. Morphy, the Chess Player, Paul Morphy, the celebrated chessplayer is, it is said, afflicted with two singular hallucinations. One is a horror of the game of cb 633; the other is the continual recurring notion that unless he can secure a loan of $200 he will be financially ruined. His condition is well understood by his friends, and he goes about among them asking for a loan of 1200, which is never refused, and which he never takes. When he drops into an office with this request, apparently in extreme anxiety, the friend to whom he applies, responds: "Certainly, Mr.

Morphy, will you take the money now?" He is instantly calmed with this reply, and goes away with the remark that he will call for it again; but he never does. Kansas City can claim for the above branch ot trade a degree of perfection in all departments not excelled in any city in the west. Palaces are erected for the sale and display of this line of industry, and art bows before the magic workings of the designer. No conception can be arrived at by the causual observer of the various departments which produce such grand results, or of the great value attached to such a stock as that of Cady Olmstead, and to say that nothing is lacking that could adorn and beautify, is a poor expression for the expenditure of the gentlemen in this undertaking while the four quarters of the globe give up their inexhaustible treasures to be fashioned into all that is known to please the aesthetic.

They will send goods to responsible parties, which, if not entirely satisfactory, may be returned. Children Cutting Teeth always suffer intensely, arid are often in grave danger. There is a violet strain of the whole nervous system, and at such a time the slightest irregularity of diet, a sudden atmospheric change, or any other disturbing cause may cost the little one its life. Peevishness, and a'tendency to the de-velopement of disease are pretty sure to accompany teething. Every mother and nurse should bear in mind the fact that Holman's Pad (infant's size) worn just prior to and during the crisis of teeth-cutting is a positive protection againt all the dangers of teething.

Why Because it gives the child strength to sustain the ordeal, invigorates the system, quiets and strengthens the nerves, improves the circulation, and induces rest and peace. Washington, Dec. 7. The criminal court was densely crowded. The testimony of two or three of the government witnesses and ono expert as to the sanity of the Guiteau family and of Guiteau himself, produced a deep impression in the court room. Confidence is now strong that the insanity plea will be utterly demolished.

Guiteau himself begins to show that he realizes the situation to be exceedingly grave. THE TWENTY-FIRST DAY. Washington, Dec. 8. The testimony to-day made a deep impression on all present.

The witnesses to Guiteau's past life and to the sanity of his father's family, were of such a character as to carry full weight and utterly sweep away, in the opinion of some of the most distinguished medical men in the court room, every vestige of a claim to hereditary insanity. THE TWENTY-SECOND DAY. Washington, Dec. 9. There was the usual buzz of excitement when Guiteau was ushered into court.

He had a slight altercation with Scoville as to which way the case should progress, but calmed down when his counsel said "Keep quiet or I will retire from the case." The testimony to-day went still further to demolish the theory of hereditary insanity, and further still in fixing upon Guiteau the character of a worthless, revengeful vagabond of keen intellect and shrewd devices to swindle his way through the world. Court adjourned until Monday. THE TWENTY-THIRD DAY. Washington, Dec. -The sensations in the Guiteau trial were two in number.

The one was the examining of ahorse doctor and an expert in insanity, who testified very simply with considerable importance of manner in Guiteau's clear and unmistakable insanity. On cross-examination, however, he destroyed a case he was making by swearing that he believed Guiteau, as a lawyer, knew the legal consequences-of an act. The whole impression of this witness was bad. His examination will continue to-morrow. The second sensation was one that indicates a method of HOUSEHOLD NOTES.

Christmas Pudding. One pound raisins, stoned, one pound of currants, cleaned and dried, one pound of beef suet, chopped fine, one pound of bread crumbs (stale are the best), one pound of brown sugar. Then cut in small pieces two ounces of lemon, orange and citron, candied peel, half a nutmeg grated, half a teaspoonful of ground ginger, one teaspoonful of mixed spice, half a saltspoonf ul of salt, eight eggs. Mix all well together with your hands, except the eggs, which must be beaten, yolks and whites separately, whites to a froth with the back of a knife, if you have not any egg beater. Now mix your eggs with the other ingredients, it must be quite thick or it will fall apart; if not moist enough add one or two eggs.

Half this quantity is enough for a small family. Grease your mould or bowl, fill with the mixture, grease a plate and put over the top, wrong side up; dip your pudding cloth in boiling water, dredge it with flour and tie securely. Have a large pot of boiling water ready; plunge your pudding in, moving it about for a minute; always keep your pudding covered with water 5 keep a kettle near by to replenish with; never let the pot go off the boil, or it will spoil your pudding. Boil six hours the first day, and when you are ready to eat it boil two hours more; before untying the cloth, plunge the pudding into cold water, then your ptiddhig will not stick. Cover it with finely powdered sugar before sending it to the table.

Potted Beef. To make this relish, take a nice piece of beef, a part of the round is the best: parboil it, and, when cold, chop it up, fat and lean, as fine as possible chopping it in a sausage mill is the best way of doing it. To six pounds of beef add four ounces of salt, six toblespoonfuls of black pepper, three of cayenne, two tea-spoonfuls of powdered cloves, one of allspice, six teaspoonfuls of powdered sage, and three onions chopped fine. Put the beef in a mortar, and work in all these ingredients; if desired, hard-boiled eggs and mushrooms can be added, and moisten it with catsup, and occasionally with butter. When it is all thoroughly worked, have ready some stone jars, dry and clean.

Bub them inside with melted butter; pack in the meat, and leave a space of about two inches from the top. Have ready some melted butter, and pour it over this.
