"Star Wars" Jedi knight Mark Hamill will host a two-hour science-fiction documentary on cable's A this fall, "Hollywood, Aliens Monsters." Susan Lucci will be taking to the bookstores today, subbing for her "All My Children" character, Erica Kane. Kane, you see, has a new book out, really.

Sort of a nonfiction piece of fiction, called "Having It All." (The book was ac-tually penned by former "AMC" writer Elizabeth Smith.) So it is that Lucci will be signing books in the Barnes and Noble store in Rockefeller Center from 1 to 2 p.m., and at the Disney store at Columbus Ave. and 66th St. from 5:30 to 6:30. S.W. There is no production date set yet for the ABC special.

The fireworks coverage romped in the ratings during the 9 o'clock hour, nearly doubling those of second-place WNBCCh. 4. The fireworks averaged an 8.5 rating (percentage of the 6.71 million TV homes in the metro market) and a 21 share (percentage of the sets in Rather and Don Hewitt, ABC's Jeff Greenfield and Diane Sawyer and Kuralt's brother, Wallace.

According to an A spokeswoman, the network had not planned a Kuralt "Biography" before his death. The beloved newsman was best known for his "On the Road" reports and his role as anchor of "CBS Sunday Morning." R.H. 'Tonight' bite Boxing referee Mills Lane will appear on NBC's "Tonight Show" tonight and, dare we say. he'll surely have an earful for host Jay Leno. You got it: Lane was the third man in the Las Vegas ring when Mike Tyson bit off more than he was supposed to chew in his recent bout with Night Live' cast member, recently starred in a much-praised HBO special, "Bring the Pain." It'll now be two years running on the MTV award show for hosts with HBO and "SNL" credits.

Last season, Dennis Miller fronted the glittery giveaway. Richard Huff Focusing on Kuralt Late CBS newsman Charles Kuralt will get the full "Biography" treatment Saturday at 8 p.m. on cable's A E. CBS News, which produces a number of "Biography" episodes each season, is working overtime to put the piece together. Kuralt died Friday at age 62.

Show staffers were in North Carolina yesterday doing interviews in Kuralt's hometown for the piece. VIDEO HOST: Chris Rock heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. It was Lane who then disqualified Tyson because of the lobe blow. The 59-year-old former boxer, who is now a courtroom judge in Reno, is making his first late-night television appearance. R.H.

The decade included some fine soul music, Bruce Springsteen, the McGarrigle Sisters and the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses." But week by week, the charts include very little anyone would ever voluntarily listen to again. No wonder a station that skimmed the cream of better days caught on. Back at the museum yesterday, the deejay most frequently mentioned in the crowd besides the current lineup seemed to be Dick Heath-erton, the "Leader of Lasagna Land," who left a decade ago.

He's a radio exec now, doing nicely. Station lore has always had it that he was gone soon after a manager saw him getting a haircut in the studio during his air shift. David Hinckley hard-core fans often tilt the results but they're an interesting snapshot. This past weekend, three diverse ones came in. First, Y-107 (107.1 FM) listeners picked their top 107 country songs.

The most popular: I were gathering at the Museum of Television and Radio by 2 a.m. to sit in on a live broadcast of Harry Harrison's morning show (which started at 5). Both Harrison and the yesterday-only team of Bill Brown and Don K. Reed, the two original jocks still with the station, drew capacity crowds at the museum. Brown and Reed also counted down the top songs from 25 years ago a sobering exercise that made it clear why an oldies station worked.

Among the songs in the top 10 during July 1972: "The Candy Man," by Sammy Davis "Nice to Be With You," by Gallery; "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast," by Wayne Newton; "Alone Again (Naturally)," by Gilbert O'Sullivan, and "How Do You 8.
