Kessler succumbs at age 79 Arthur T. Kessler, 79, widower of L. Orpha Guldin) Kessler, Knauertown RD 2, died Wednesday morning in Manatawny Manor, where he was a patient since last June after a two-year illness. Born in Morgantown, he was a son of the late John J. and Maggie T.

(Himes) Kessler and lived in Knauertown since 1908. He worked for his uncle in a blacksmith shop in Knauertown when he was 10 years old. The shop was converted into a garage in 1913 which was the first public garage between Phoenixville and Blue Ball. He purchased the garage from his uncle in 1923 and operated it until he was 66 years old, when he retired because the business was affected by changing traffic patterns on Route 23. While he was in the garage business, he trained 18 apprentices.

For 55 years he was a member of Stichter Lodge 254, AM; for 54 years a member of the Reading Consistory, and for 52 years of the Rajah Temple Shrine, Reading. He also was a member of the Pottstown Good Fellowship Club, and an honorary life member of Pottstown Elks Lodge 814. Surviving a daughter, Betty, wife of Edward A. Loomis Elverson RD, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m.

Saturday from White Memorial Home, Parker Ford. Interment will be in St. UCC Cemetery, Knauertown. A viewing will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Bitler, Boyertown RD 1, were Wednesday from White Memorial Home, Parker Ford. Officiating was the Rev. John Bixler, former pastor of Pine Swamp Church, Warwick Township. Interment was in Pine Swamp Cemetery. Bearers were John Curtis, David Venna, Fred Carr, Edward McBride, George Bitler and Charles Long.

Saturday from the Shalkop Funeral Home, 135 Bridge Spring City. The Rev. Robert F. Johnson, pastor of Bible Fellowship Church, Royersford, will officiate. Interment will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford.

A viewing will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Widger died Tuesday in Coatesville Hospital where he was a patient one day. Born in Norristown, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Lynch) Widger.

Prior to his retirement in 1971, he was employed in the cleaning department of Doehler Jarvis Division, NL Industries, where he served as chief steward from 1949 to 1951 and was departmental steward several years. Surviving with his widow are five sons, Thomas H. Delaware; Donald Myerstown; Theodore, Phoenix, James 49 Beech and Joseph 988 Township Line Road, Royersford. Also, four daughters, Joan, wife of William Sterner, 1333 South Charlotte, wife of Clifford Moon, Tuscon, Sophia, wife of John Swartz, Kepler Road, Lower Pottsgrove, and Mrs. Patricia Brumbach, Moser Road.
