Cgr icnl tnr al The Potato Fly. BelieTing your valuable papr to be the best medium for communicating information, especially to the farming community, I will give below what has proved an infallible preventive to that destructive insect's depredations, tba C-tharia Vittaha," or potato By. For a number of years these insects have been rendering this valuable vegetable in this country almost worthless, but by adopting the following measures their ravages may bo entirely obviated: Take of strong soapsuds (soft soap) one gallon; to this add, while hot. spirits ol turpentine r-' the potato tops thoroughly with this mixture and the fly will immeuiately desert the premises. This is the only remedy that we haTe ever found in this section that coula ba considered in any respect reliable Cor.

EyCALiTT or Races as Demonstrated bt Cbickens and Blackbirds. The Somerset (I'a.) Democrat says that sometimes last fall a blackbird carue to Mr. Joseph SnydirV, in that borough, and has since lived contentedly with the chickens. It has bccon.e thoroughly domesticated, and comes regularly for its food. Instead of roosting the chii kens do, it takes a position on the rooster's back, who bears the weight of his little friend with great good nature.

But the most singular of all is, that it has learned to crow like a cock, and crows regularly, more frequently than the rooster, and seems to be vain of its accomplishment. It is a bena fide crow, clear and loud, similar lo that of a young rooster. The bird can be seen and heard daily and if any one doubts its truth, they can be convinced by seeing and hearing for themselves. The age is progressive, and the birds are keeping up with the times. The Pearlp.

The Albany Evening Journal, in speaking of this subject, says that it would be bard to tell whether most joy or sorrow has been caused at Notch Brook by the discovery of the pearls. Dozens are bemoaning fortunes that, in days past, they carelefsly flung away. One matron una- railinpiy sighs over some "iiuie wuue things" that she once gave her boys for marbles. A s-hool in aster lugubriously re-members that be Las chopped np eight or ten thousand dollars worth, with bis pen knife, "to see what was inside." Another genius rammed a pearl bullet down bis riftV, and shot away bis fortune. An old latly who chuckled six months over her "good bargain with the pedlar," now discovers that she paid him in pearls, about seven thousand dollars for calico dress.

Many a true heart, that would have come "back like the dove to the ark, after the first transgression, has been frightened beyond recall by the angry look and menace, the sarage charaiy of an unforgiving soul.
