D'AVIS AND MR BUCHANAN. It appears from lh' annexed letter from tbciew York Commercial, ibat in a second effort, Mr. Davis has' completely demol. isEedT wbni Remained of Mr. Buchanan, after Mr.Davis's first speech In reply to the Pennsylvania Senator.

Our reade'rs have "already seen the first speech. When Mr, Davis opebs his battery ol big guns, upon "bis adversaries, it resembles the broadside Ofar frigate upon a fleet of Chines'? Junks. Washinoton, March Mr. Davis's success, in the encounter which it pleased Mr. Buchannh to give him.

was stirnal. nnd triitmphanf. Whatev. cr the Loco Poco press may say nbout it, be assured, Mr. Buchanan has got it, for tho rest of ins life.

In endeavoring to repel the charge of being in favor of reducing the price of labor, he has" only furnished nn opportunity for that charge to be'fixed upon him still more strongly. No doubt it was a concerted movement. The party had become alarmed at the effect which their doctrines had produced in the country, and found it necessary to deny that they were their doctrines. Mr. Diivis's speech hav-ing a vast circulation, and evidently producing great effect, the attack was directed to that quarter.

It was well met, nnd coin-pMetely'repellcd. Mr. Davis was cool nnd collected, in manner, out he went oyer the whole subject with admirable clearness, and concluded by a direct declaration that what he, Mr. Buchanan, had chosen to say, "was not parliamentary, not gentlemanlike, and not true." Mr. Davis proved, completely and incon-testably, 1.

That his, speech, as published, was the same as he delivered it. He mado this so clear and certain, that Mr. Buchanan could not, and did not, deny it. 2. Tbat Mr.

Buchanan sut by and heard the speech, without interrupting him, or complaining ol any misrepresentation. 3. He ottempted no reply to Mr. Davis's speech, either for the purpose of explaining his own or otherwise. And he rested five or six weeks before he made any complaint at all.

All this was clearly established. It may be added that Mr. Smith of Indiana, Mr. Henderson of Mississippi, and Mr. Merrick, who had all spoken before Mr.

Davis, bad understood Mr. Buchanan just as Mr. Davis did, as Iheir printed speeches will show. And nothing raid by them was denied by Mr. Buchanan.

And notwithstanding Mr. B. pretended that he only just then, viz: on the sixth, beenme acquainted with what was staled, in regard to what, he said, in Mr. Davis's speech yet there is reason to believe that he had many days before written to Connecticut, probably at the request of friends, to give explanations, to take ofT the edge of what he had said, and give relief to the party from the intolerable weight ol Ji is anti-labor doctrines. I ought to have added that Mr.

Davis declared in his place to-day, that after he had finished his speech now so much complained of, Mr. B. came up to him and congratulated him upon its ability, making no complaints ol misrepresentation whatever. And it fs a fact, also, that ubout ten days before this attack was made, Mr. Buchanan spoke in the Senate of Mr.

Davis's speech as the ablest he had ever made, and did not complain of any misrepresentation. It is probable that Mr. Buchanan's printed speech may have been a good deal trimmed and softened in its expressions, compared with the spoken speech still the noxious doctrine is clearly and visibly in it, as Mr. Davis proved to demonstration by a lonir string of extracts which I trust he will pub'-lisji. The truth is, Mr.

B. is a man ofconsidera- mind, but of nnnow knowledge and narrow thinking. He had (jot hold of uerman statistical notions, which he thought would ifavor the sub-Treasury scheme; the essenceofnll which German notions wns that, a hard money' currency i educed the cost oj production, manvjaclnrtt that la to say, reduced Hie wages of labor and full of this supposed creat discovery, he "rlnah. ed headlong upon the rock on whiolf he has' made shipwreck. HAYS' LINIMENT has been used by-thousands for the above distressing complaint, and In no case has it failed to effect a cure. It was the lant death bed bequest of the celebrated Dr. Gridley to his fiiend and attendant, Solomon Hays. Hundreds can testify to the wonderful effects of this Liniment, who have used it in New York, and who say it works like a charm. The following are some which have been handed to the proprietors, in addition to which many respectable citizens have voluntarily called and left their addresses' with permission to refer to them.
