OPF.N EVENINGS SCORES A "ir" When the really Rood and therefore popular theatro or concert orchestra wants to make an exceptionally successful Impression, it turns to the magic melodies of Victor Herbert, but lately one of the most prominent and beloveei figures In American music.

NothbiR can explain the hold which his mu.slo has upon American audiences any more than tho ielights of the music Itself can be explained. But happily Herbert's nuslc, ployed and suns as beautifully as he loulil have wished, Is. left to us on those delightful records. Mr. Khilliret spent tUhtei'n months of Intensive study of Herbert scores before undertaking this work; tho result Is a treasury of melody for which there has been a pressing demand, nnd to which lovers nt Herbert's music their name is leg ion will give a royal welcome.
