Most of the runners who take part in Ay. FF 1 a 4 i The 10T A Annual By KATHY MURRIE There's a 20-year-old cross-country race smes that may be one of the city's best -kept secrets. The Wednesday night cross-country all-comers races have been going for two decades, but with little publicity or fanfare. Local enthusiast Frank McNamara is the current organizer and has been doing it "about seven or eight years." A NAiT instructor by day, McNamara runs, swims, bikes and more after hours. He says 80 to 100 people come out for the runs which start Sept.

7 and go until Oct. 19, when the evenings become too dark for trail runs. "We get a lot of students with not much experience running and get them used to races and group running," McNamara adds. The events are organized on a cost recovery basis, at a mere $2 to enter one or all the races, and "that gets your name on the page" of results. "We also try to scrounge up some prizes, too," for those who enter at least four of the seven races.

The first event is a 5.37 km loop starting from Hawrelak Park's main pavilion at 7 p.m The course will be marked and maps posted at the start time. The series continues with a 7.S6 km run at Whitemud Park, Sept 14; an undetermined distance run on Sept. 21 at the Kinsmen Centre; and 8.S km mc Japan's Bunnies training at of A Sunday. September 25 STK ATIIC A SCIENCE PARK The Bunnies, a Senior hockey team with no age restrictions, have been established for the past 30 years. They play in the six team Japan Hockey League.

Former Edmonton Oiler defence-man Randy Gregg used to play for the team The Bunnies arrived in Alberta on Monday. They will be playing the Fort Saskatchewan Traders in an exhibition game on Sept. 18. The team will practice at the Gare Drake Arena at the of A campus. A day of fun in the park.

The team recently announced that former University of Alberta Golden Bears coach Billy Moores will become an assistant coach with the Bunnies. In addition, Chris Yule, a graduate of the St Albert Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League has signed to play with the team. Yule previously played for the Edmonton Maple Leafs..
