Our savings arm in full bloom! Daw Mens Staff Writer Stop rubbing your eyes, people you saw right Yes. that was Eric (No Justice, No Peace) Adams at State Sen. Robert DiCarlo's $150-a-plate Republican fund-raiser at the El Caribe. Adams, with bis new Republican membership card in hand, was schmoozing with folks he most vocally attacked during his fizzled campaign run against Brooklyn Rep. Major Owens last year, including Mayor Giuliani and First Deputy Mayor Peter Powers.

DiCarlo greeted the chairman of the Grand Council of Guardians, a black police fraternal group, with a hearty handshake, but couldn't say why Adams was jrt the dinner. "Maybe he saw the light," DiCarlo giggled. Apparently, it was a group of black Republicans called the North Star Republicans of Fort Greene that convinced Adams to trade in his Democratic voter card which he only recently acquired for a shot at rubbing shoulders with philosophical soul-mates of House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Odd, considering it was. Adams who took to the steps of City Hall just a few weeks ago to chop the head off a dummy to protest Giuliani's budget cuts, which he said would devastate the poor and middle-class particularly minorities.

"Believe it or not, it's a continuation of 'no justice, no peace," Adams told The Boro Politic. "I believe that there are a large number of closet black Republicans in the city, and if you take a close look at some of the concepts of the Republican Party, you'll see that many of them are our values." Sounding like an all-American Clarence Thomas wanna-be black Republican. Adams also said the Democratic Party has failed the black community and it's time that African-Americans to stop entering the political ring "throwing the left punch." "That is counter-productive, it is nonstrategic and it has led us to a position to be shut out and disrespected by the party we hold allegiance to the Democrats," he said. Good argument But why would a political hopeful whose ideology supposedly is near and dear to the black community switch to the Republican Party at a time when critics argue that it's GOP proposals that would most hurt minorities? "I disagree with some of the traditional Republicans," Adams admitted. "However, if we're not part of the party, then we can't be part of the mechanism that the shakes the platform.

If they have disregarded our concerns, it's because we have disregarded their party." Adams said he also was impressed by the fact that North Star took notice of his "Take Back Our Communities" strategic crime plan, which was a centerpiece of the campaign he couldn't get off the ground because he couldn't muster enough money or signatures to get on the ballot With all that said, why in the world would Adams show up to DiCarlo's dinner, knowing full well that the senator can't stand Arthur Bramwell, one of the leading black Republicans in the city? "If Arthur Bramwell is willing to listen to me and my plans, I'm all for talking to him, too," Adams said. And if the Democrats are not willing to give him the votes, we guess he can try for the Republican ones, too. JfflxaX he REALLY meant Trying to clean up his words is Assemblyman Robert Straniere. The Staten Island legislator is still trying to recover from his major blunder of announcing his candidacy for state Sen. John Mar chi's seat even though Marchi has no intention of retiring.

In an attempt to save face, Straniere invited members of the Staten Island Republican Committee to a breakfast yesterday to "clear the air" regarding his "political plans." Sources say Straniere is telling allies-turned-foes that the Staten Island Advance, which broke the story of his plans, blew his comments out of proportion. No ird yet on how it's beingreceived.
