capital stock of Montgomery Ward from 1285000 shares to 6000000 shares (no par) accompanied by val uable rights to stockholders to pur chase new stock at $1750 a share will provide the company some $40 000000 cash The plan is to use about $8000000 to retire all bond Is sues of subsidiaries That leaves $32000000 available for the great ex pansion policy In the retail chain store field which the company is pushing Also from the standpoint of stockholders It Is Important to note that In expanding this field the company will lease or rewt retail lo cations rather than laying out huge sums In buying them outright In stead only equipment and fixtures for the new stores will be necessary thereby conserving cash and transfer the major part of funds derived trom sale of new stock to working capital account This will preserve a very strong financial position for the company with current assets at the end of the present year at least 8 times current liabilities Also it would enable directors If they so de cide to increase the proposed divi dend rate of $250 on the iew stock during the same time that the ex pansion program Is being carried out Inasmuch as earnings for 11128 will probably be around $6 a share on the new basis of capitaliza tion the proposed dividend Is conser vative especially In view of the fore goli comments on the strong cash position of the company 18 52
