Alston, passed away January 3, 1991, at Foothills Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer at the age of 28 years. She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her husband; daughter, Lauren; son, Reid: her parents, Stan and Ellen Reid of Calgary; her sister and brother-in-law, Valeta and Pat Lang of Edmonton; her sister and brother-in-law, Victoria and Tim Boyle of Calgary and her many relatives and friends. Vanessa's kindness and unselfishness touched all who knew her. Her family is grateful for the special care given her by the staff of Unit 61 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Vanessa was born September 29, 1962 at Edmonton, Alberta and was raised in Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary.

She attended Dr. E.P. Scarlett Senior High School and the University of Calgary. She was a highland dancer and for several years a member of the Bow-mont Pipe Band. She was also an active member of the Junior League of Calgary.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Martin's Anglican Church, 2210 28 Street S.W., Calgary, on Tuesday, January 8, 1991 at 2:00 p.m., Reverend J. Barry Foster officiating. Cremation. 428-6666. MAINLAND, Isabella (Linklater) On December 21, 1990, Mrs. Isabella Linklater Mainland died at Tofield at the age of 93 years. She was predeceased by her husband, William Balfour Mainland in 1984. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Margaret (Wallace) Nordby, Elspeth (Vernon) Root and Anne MacRae and by Kay and James Nordby and family; also grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Belle Mainland was born, grew up and married in the parish of Firth, the Orkney Islands, Scotland. She emigrated with her husband and family to Canada in 1929. For nearly 50 years she lived in the Ryley area of Alberta. A Memorial Service was held in Tofield on December 24 and Mrs. Mainland was buried in the Ryley Cemetery.

MANGER, Catherine Mrs. Catherine Manger (Nissen, nee Meier) of Red Deer, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on January 2, 1991 at the age of 79 years. Catherine was born on June 9. 1911 on a farm near Asor (Luseland), Saskatchewan. She was united in marriage to Peter Nissen at Saskatoon in 1940.

Catherine was an active member of various church (St. Mary's Catholic Womens League, Stella Maris) and community groups (First President of St. Goretti's Home and School). She loved children and looked after 26 foster babies from birth to adoption. For many years she worked at St.

Paul's Hospital as a seamstress. After her retirement, she married Sebastian Manger and moved to Red Deer where she continued to be active in bowling, gardening, sewing and knitting. She is survived by two sons, Donald Nissen and his wife, Mary Anne of Edmonton and Norman Nissen and his wife, Vicki of Oakville. Ontario; one daughter, Carol Nissen of Clinton. B.C.; 11 grandchildren, Anita, Lori Anne.

Lynette, Chad, April, Dayna, Ethan, Carl, Noel, Marc and Lani; one great-granddaughter, Chrystal Karen; one stepson, Anthony Manger and his wife, Carol and their family of Red Deer; one stepdaughter, Barbara and her husband, David Milligan and their family of Red Deer. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Annie (Bob) Cooper of Kelowna, B.C., Mary (Carl) Lang of Edmonton, Emma Gougeon of Vancouver, B.C., Alfred (Jean) Meier of Edmonton, Margaret Dmytryshyn of Vancouver, Betty Carriere of Edmonton, Mildred (Art) Hill of Calgary, Madeline Meier of Edmonton. Cecilia (Ed) Sinclair of Edmonton, Gerty (Morris) Korbutt of Edmonton, John (Leonie) Meier of Edmonton; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Nissen in 1965 and her second husband, Sebastian Manger In 1989. Funeral Mass will be held at St.

Mary's Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, on Monday, January 7, 1991 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Louis Kingston celebrant. Interment will follow in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. COWAN, James Kay Mr. James Kay Cowan, resident of St. Albert, passed away on January 2, 1991 in Dillon, Montana, at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Mabel; one son, Jim (Marlene) Cowan of Morinville, Alberta; five daughters, Ellen (Bob) Manson of Edmonton, Marjorie Robinson of Calgary, Shirley (John) Weeks of St. Albert, Joan (John) McNally of Edmonton and Kathleen Somerset of Edmonton; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers and six sisters.

Telephone: 422-1141. DALHEIM, Kristian Kristian Iversen Dalheim of Onoway passed away at the Colonel Mewburn Vetern Centre in Edmonton on January 3rd, 1991, at the age of 84 years. He was born in Tufsingdalen, Norway on September 11th, 1906. He leaves to mourn his loss his loving wife, Mary; five sons, Jack of Spruce Grove, Harold, Lome, Kevin and Gary of Onoway. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Laura and Debbie Dalheim; five grandsons, Trevor, Neil, Karl, Shaun and Mark Dalheim; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by one grandson, Duane and two sisters. Surviving in Norway are two sisters; four brothers and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at Rose Garden Chapel, Stony Plain at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8th. Survived by her loving husband, Eric; three sons, Gordon (Gloria), Clarence (Nina) and Robert, all of Edmonton; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one brother and three sisters, Theresa (Adam) Lutz of Edmonton, Carl (Ida) Schultz of Winterburn.

Funeral Administrators 4 Directors (The Chapel on the Boulevard) 426-0050. HAMPSON, Jack On December 31, 1990, Jack Hampson passed away in Richmond, B.C. at the age of 78. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn in 1984. He is survived by his son, Jack Junior; his daughter-in-law, Galena; two grandsons, Adrian and Wade and by his brother, Bob Hampson and family.

His passing is a loss to all Alberta trade unionists and to the working people on whose behalf he toiled. Jack Hampson began organizing in the 1930 at the Canada Packers Plant in Edmonton. He was an Officer of Local 78 of the Trades and Labour Congress, and subsequently, a representative of the United Packinghouse Workers of America. He moved to Calgary in 1952, and served all of the province's meat packing plants until his retirement in 1973. Jack was the first President of the Industrial Federation of Labour of Alberta in 1949, and 1st Vice President of the newly reconstituted Alberta Federation of Labour in 1956.

He was subsequently elected President of the Alberta Federation of Labour, and served in that position until 1960. Jack also served as a Senator of the University of Calgary. The members of the Alberta Federation of Labour join in paying this final tribute to Jack Hampson, union builder and leader. KINCH, Edwin Alfred A On January 2, 1991, Mr. Edwin Alfred Kinch of Ed- j(3o monton passed away at the age of 97 years.

He is survived by his wife, Winnilred; two daughters. From 1964 to 1976, in addition to farming, he worked as a steam engineer in the Mayerthorpe Hospital.

He was very community-minded. He was a Lions Club member in Mayerthorpe and treasurer with the Ukrainian Community Centre Hall, Sangudo for. many years. Bill enjoyed ice-fishing and was in his element when he was building something or playing Mr. Fix-it, but his greatest pleasure came from visiting family and friends.
