READING, MONDAY, JUNE, 27, 1864 Saturday evening, the RioggoM Band serenaded Mr Teager and lady, of Washington, at the Mansion House. Oh How Wakm The heated time in upon us with a vengeance, and the condition of the streets makes our condition almost iotollerable. Where are ihe Sprinklers NEW POST OFFICES The Postmaster General has ordered the establishment of a Post Office at North Heidelberg in thu County of Berks and State of and the appointment of J. L. KloPP rs Postmaster Jhereof.

The office is loca" ted at Klopp's Store, on the now mail llnute from Reading and Woaelsdorf. Service upon which is to couence on the 1st proximo. A nir Post Office called "Hill Church. "has also teen established in Pike township. Berks county, on the route leadiog from Limerick via Boyertowo to Kutzton.

A. VI, (3Uee, Esq has been appointed Postmaster. There are now ninety four Post Offices in liorks co on an average two to each township. A Plia. Ou city is most beautiful, notwithstanding that everything is neglected that would add to that beauty.

It reminds us of apoor orphan boy who has grown up to be a man of honor, wealth and position, despite the frowns of fortune miJ tho neglect, of men. Reading stands in he position of the orphan boy, but we do not like to eee it neglected in the manner it has been, end will not without putting in a remoos'raaco. Reading wants many things, and among the rest a Public Square a pair of luQgs a place where citizens can go in the heat of the day or the cool of the evening and enjoy thenselves a place for Toang America ta be taken to for the purpose of inhaling health and strength. We rill have a Public Square, certainly, after the present generaiiau has died out, but we should like to be able to iofuse some spirit into those who now have its destinies in hand but we hive dim hopes. They are Gradgrinds practical men.

Ob, bo practi cal that they lose sight of everything that is beautiful, and brght, and joyful What have the Gradgrinds to do with all that Nothing. If the dust on the streets beoomes too intol erable, it is hauled away, and more carted on to be again hauled away. This is practical eminently so. Although our streets have cost us two or three times as much to keep them covered with a quantity of consumption producing dust than it would have to pave them and make them permanent and decent, but we are practical, and must save at the spigot and let out at the bung. Tri concluding ceremonies of the seventy first annuel session of Linden Hall, Ladies' Seminary, Litiz, took place on Thursday evening, June 23rd.

The room containing the various specimens of needle work, paintings, drawings etc, was offered to the numerous visitors early in the morning. Here was tastefully displayed, every article that Woman's nimble fingers could possibly work or woman's ingenuity devise. Besides all that makes up the list of the merely ornamental. We were pleased to notice a neatly made shirt, several plain muslin dresses, and other specimens of the serenely useful in dress, as indications of the practical character of the course of instruction pursued at Linden Hall. Some of the drawings and paintiogs were really finer in design and execution than Ihe generality of school girl productions, and reflect great credit oa the preceptor in this department sf education.

The hall of the evening entertainment was erowded at an early hour, with an audience of ladies and gentleman, the majority of whom were from abroad The stage, Aurally decorated, was occupied by nearly one hundred pupils, neatly attired in white, their fa cea beaming with joyous smiles. The exercises were mainly musical, finely executed selections on the Piano, with a pleasing variety of SoIob, Duetts and Choruses, displaying the extent of the courso of instruction in this department. The recitations were few, but we were particularly pleased with tbe reading of Poo's Raven" and "UUlume the youthful speakers seeming to comprehend tbe spirit of the gifted author. The evening oancluded with a few appro priate remarks from Dr. Ficardt, of Bethlehem and a few words of parting advjci to the pupils from the Rev.

Fastor. We had tbe pleasure of meetiog John Beck, Esq, that veteran in tbe educational field, whose pupils of all age may be found in nearly every town in tbe land Ilia friends will be pUased to learn thai, though advanced in years, he Is hale and bearly as ever, and likely to continue doing good for years to come. At a recent convention held at Rome, Oneida county, N. representatives were present from sixty four cheese factories, which employed 33,070 cows. The largest of these factories is that of Kenny Frayer, Cortland county, which 1(03 1,000 cows, and the New Woodstock, which has 1.200.

There were nine privie dairies represented, which have together 110 cows. The system of manufacturing cheese on a combined plan, and on a large scale, is one of recent origin, and this hsi shows that it has absorbed (he dairy interest of that region. Oxiors. BURNING OF CANAL BOAT AND LOSS OF LIFE A canal boat loaded with coal oil, took fire about six o'clock, abtut five miles from ihi city, and two from Borlcntown. The iter of tbe boat was in tbe cabin at the time, and a fire had been kindled in the stove for tbe purpose of cooking their breakfast.
