Mosquitos again struck at Berlin during the night in a continuation of the nerve-sawing jabs against a people with the fate of Hamburg still flaming in their minds. Peenemuende is 60 miles northwest of Stettin and almost directly north of Berlin. The raid was one of the highlights of between 2,500 and 3,000 smashing Allied sorties which struck during the 24 hours beginning Tuesday morning and which were described by an R. A. F.

commentator as typical of how closely-coordinated are the round-the-clock attacks that now can be thrown into Europe. Other features were Fortress forays against Regensburg, Schweinfurt and the Marseille area, supported and supplemented by night and day drives of medium bombers, fighter-bombers and fighters of nearly a dozen types. Weather that made the bombing conditions ideal for the Peenemuende wallop also was the night fighters' delight. And they were busy. The bomber fleet lost 41 planes.

But there was no indication that the board would swing the new weapon immediately in the direction of John L. Rather it was expected that any action on the case of the mine workers would await return of the coal miners to private operation.

The miners have been back in the pits without a contract since Secretary of the Interior Ickes took over the mines as government administrator after the strike shutdowns of early summer. In a smashing climax to nearly 3,000 American and British warplane sorties in 24 hours, the R. A. big bombers switched with smooth and tremendous power from the Italian to the German theater Tuesday night and crushed one of the Nazi's vital war plants so thoroughly that officials estimated it could hardly be reestablished within a year. The target for this precision attack the sort of attack that the Americans threw in against Schweinfurt and Regensburg in southeast Germany was Peenemuende, the Nazi center for the development of aircraft radio-location devices and armament. Meanwhile, U.
