7 1 Sodium benzoate. Benzoic acid. Woodbridge toilet soap. Canneries and driersTiave been shipping the apricot pits to Germany, on the basis of $45 per ton. The last year the shipments were made, 6,000 tons were sent over to be manufactured by German chemists into the very products which Dr.

Woodbridge has been able to make here at home, and he estimates the commercial value-wholesale of the products of one ton of the pits at $146. He therefore suggests not only the possibility of being independent of Germany when requiring any of the products listed above, but that it may be profitable to be independent. One ton of pits produces 500 pounds of nuts, from which these products are obtained. Thirty-five per cent of all the nuts is oil, and the fruit oil, as Dr. Wood-bridge has namedl is probably superior to any of the vegetable oils on the market and an acceptable substitute for olive oil.

The apricot meal, when mixed with the flour for hot cakes, gives them a delightful rvut flavor. The uses of Prassian blue and bluing are too well known to require more than the suggestion, while the sodium benzoate and benzoic acid are of high value in the scientifio world.
