Phillips founded the U.S. Taxpayers Party in 1992 to offer America leadership committed to restoring the Federal Republic to its delegated, enumerated functions and returning American jurisprudence to its original "common law" biblical foundations. Phillips was nominated in 1992 and 1996 to be the USTP presidential candidate.

Jason Wright, 29, of Pleasant Grove, announced Friday he will run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon for the 3rd District Republican nomination.

"Incumbents are difficult to challenge and Cannon enjoys a powerful position," Wright, said. "This will be a test, but I believe the 3rd District should be served by. someone more representative of its voters. He and his wife, Norma have lived in Provo 35 years and are active in civic and church responsibilities. They have five children and 10 grandchildren.
