But this year the nomina tion roster included 13 Sherwood Park teenagers, aged 14-17, who wrote and acted in an "awareness play" on drinking and driving. The play was directed by Deborah Hurford, public relations officer for local RCMP detachment. While at the conference, the cast will also present a shortened version of the play to police and volunteers. But first the cast, accompanied by Constable George Koszegi and Hurfurd, will pile into the crime van and head down to Medicine Hat for the Provincial Youth Conference 1987 on October 31. Again, the cast will give a performance to an expected audience of 200 teenagers and chaperons.

The cast, which logged 200 hours of rehearsal time, had two runs this summer at Chinook Theatre and Walter-dale Theatre, playing to packed houses. "I'm really proud of the production of the kids' performances and the time and effort they put into it," said Koszegi, who is also the play's production manager. Although the traditional cast party was never held after the summer performances, Koszegi said that an "emotional high" hit everyone and turned the IS participants into friends. "It's like being one happy family." The cast reunited two weeks ago for another 12 hours of rehearsal prior to the conferences. "All we're doing is polishing things up and we're ready to go," said Koszegi.
