Afghanistan is divided 18 provinces, and the educational director of each of the provinces has a major responsibility for the program in his $rea, Mr. Wudood has been an assistant provincial director and will very likely be a provincial director when he. returns to his country. Since 1959 he has bcpn working with the Institute of Education, which is the organization the Ministry set up to channel the efforts of the Columbia team.

He has the confidence of Mr. Mujaddidi, the president of thp Institute and of the Ministry of Education. Mr. Wudood is seeking to-become familiar with the whole range of education, both primary and secondary. He is especially interested in ways of helping teachers.

He is also concerned with the- duties and responsibilities of the office of district superintendent of schools to which his office of provincial director is perhaps roughly comparable.
