Jackets Lose; Sidney, Schenevus Clinch League Crowns llion Beats Onconta 59-51; Win Puts Bombers In First Place; Second OHS Loop Loss ILION--Rebounding and fouls again spelled the big difference as Oneonta's Yellowjackets lost, 59-51, to Hion Rochester Tech Beats Oneonta ROCHESTER Rochester Institute of Technology unleashed a stinging last break olfcnse and capitalized on Oneonta State's poor shooting eye to whip the Red Dragons here last night, 7MO. Oneonta trailed by only one the first haU ended, closing the period on the short end ol a 30-29 count, HOME SQUAD But the home squad, now sporting a 12-1 record, spurted to a 12 point lead during the first ten minutes ol the second half, while holding the Dragons to only six points. During the first seven minutes of that period, Oneonta failed to net a single point. State had played tven with the Rochester powerhouse during a first half which saw the lead change hands nine times. At the end of ten minutes of play, Oneonta held a 14-12 margin.

ZOXE DEFENSE While Coach Hal Chase's charges employed a rone defense-previously effective-during that first period, the Rochester quintet varied its defensive tactics during the entire contest Early in the second half, Oneonta changed to a man-to-man defense as the Tech squad began to hit in large measure. The Red Dragons, who are now S-3 for the season, encounter Gcn- eseo State there this evening. iSx-foot-six Ed Baucum, showing expert acumen under the boards, topped Tech's scoring with 29 points, 26 of which came from the Held. 11 FOR Oneonta hit on only 11 of Its 33 attempts during the first half, then slumped back further in the second period, accounting for a mere six of their 3 tries. Capt, Al Slawson, with ten points, was the only Dragon to break into double figures.

Don McCaughey had 17 and Amie Cardillo 13 for Rochester. llion first place in the Iroquois League as Oneonta, the team which beat them last week in the Oneonta Armory, dropped lo 4-3 in the league race. Three IHon men hit double figures in the game while Oneonta had one player over 10 points. Brian Brunette with 22, Wayne Murphy with 16 and Howard Dunning with II led Ilion'i scorers, while Oneonta's top scorer was Ward Johnson with 13 points. NO REBOUNDS The big problem last night was Oneonta's Inability to gather in the rebounds against Ihe rugged llion club plus foul- Ing which gave IHon 13 points after the Bombers had tossed in only one more fMd goal.

i Defense also became a problem throughout the contest a Oneonta switched from icne to, man lo roan In an effort to contain Illon's scorers and grab the rebounds after IHon had taken IB-ID first period lead. DRAW Under the new program, a five- year major league veteran would draw the minimum pension of JS8 monthly when he becomes 50. The plies to a 20-year man who waits until 63 to apply for a pension. If a 20-year veteran chooses, he can begin drawing J275 monthly at the age of 50. The old pension contract became effective when the veteran reached 50 and Included no provision for waiting until he was 63. 1 The commissioner said the plan could not be guaranteed beyond five years because its financial structure is based on money from the new five-year World Series and All-Star game radio and television contract signed last year and effective beginning with the 1957 season.
