Bales of Ottawa plated second to Brenda Webb of Knoxville, by less than one-half second as both Webb and Bales bettered the previous meet mark of nine minutes 17.20 seconds set by the Canadian last year. Webb won with a time of 9:03.46. Bales had 9:03.88. Third was American Margaret Groos in 9: 1 5.34.
