Tab 23 Tab 6 New Canadian board game more than just 'Balderdash' A A 1 A A 8 Festive Fruit Trifle is everyone's favorite dessert Balderdash is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "a senseless jumble of words; nonsense, trash, spoken or written." But for Paul Toyne of Toronto, it's no joke. In fact, it could mean the realization of his dream of soaring over Switzerland in a hot air balloon. Balderdash is the name of a new board game, invented by Toyne, 29, and his girlfriend Laura Robinson, 27, also of Toronto. Players try to bluff each other by creating phoney definitions for some of the zaniest, most unbelievable words in the English language. Players are awarded points for bluffing as well as choosing the correct meaning.

The game is available in major Edmonton department, game and toy stores. Suggested retail price is $24.95. Toyne, a native of Toronto, who has spent six years in the advertising business where he worked as a copywriter for many of Canada's largest and most prestigious agencies, said inventing Balderdash was a natural for him. "I have always been fascinated with words." "One of the inherent flaws of the dictionary game was that people had difficulty finding good, playable words. "We took the dictionary game and embellished it. We researched over two million words and put together 2,500 of the best words in English language dictionaries." Balderdash, which was awarded 4'2 stars out of a possible five in the November issue of Toys and Games, a national trade journal, was designed to bring people together, said Toyne. "Balderdash is synonymous with laughter It's interesting and enlightening.

It might even enable you to find out something about your friends you never suspected." Toyne's future plans include a possible sequel to Balderdash, a television game show based on Balderdash and possibly hot air ballooning. "I would love to do something like Buddy Bombard did. Bombard, an American insurance broker, sold his business and flies people around France in balloons, complete with wine and cheese snacks." Robinson, 27, a graduate of the University of Windsor, was born in Kingston and raised in London, Ont. During the past four years in Toronto, she has established a successful career in the entertainment industry, working as an actress, singer, songwriter and model. in mini yt- turn i This Cherry Waldorf Ring will enhance any Christmas dinner setting Recipes that are sure to delight Paul Toyne with Balderdash, newest board game An early Yule treat at museum START THIS WEEK or ANY WEEK THIS WINTER at Rabbit mGSffl Color T.V.'s creasing milk to 2'i cups (600 ml).
