EDMONTON JOURNAL, Monday, November 1, 1982 D3 Jim Coleman becoming a 60-Minute Football Team. However, they show some flashes of brilliance such as Saturday's third quarter when they scored 23 points in six minutes. But, as the first Toronto team since 1971 to win eight games, they deserve even fleetingly this lofty Number Four rating. 5. OTTAWA: With a playoff-berth cinched, they kept a few things under wraps in Montreal yesterday.

However, the Rough Riders have no love for Toronto and you can expect George Brancato to be preparing a large and hairy trap for the Argos in Ottawa next Saturday. 6. CALGARY: Well, they squeaked into the Western playoffs by winning their final game of the 1982 schedule. But, you must rate them below Ottawa because the Rough Riders gave them a 42-to-19 waxing only nine days ago. 7.

B.C. LIONS: No one to blame but themselves. The Lions blew themselves out of the playoff picture by losing four of their final five league-games. Maybe the Lions suffered a mass attack of self-delusion after their 46-14 win at Toronto on Sept 26. 8.

SASKATCHEWAN: Eliminated but still dangerous! Nothing would please them more than depriving Edmonton of first-place in next Sunday's final game at Regina. 9. MONTREAL: Next-Year Country! FINAL REGULAR-SEASON CANADIAN FOOTBALL RATINGS: That old-fashioned word, "defence," appeared to have been expunged from the vocabulary of Canadian Football coaches until Saturday night. The Edmonton Eskimos and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats staged a stimulating revival of the rock-'em sock-'em tactics which, up until the past half-dozen years, were fashionable in playoff games. Speaking of playoffs, last Saturday night's cruncher in Edmonton could have been a preview of this month's Grey Cup final at Toronto.

With only one weekend left on the regular- schedule, the CFL teams are rated as follows: 1. EDMONTON: The Eskimos appeared to be set up for an unseemly pratfall Saturday night but their occasionally maligned defensive secondary preserved their seven-game winning streak. The Tiger-Cats had them clutched firmly by the gozzola until the 54th minute of the game when Joe Holliman intercepted a Tom Clements pass at Edmonton's two-yard line and ran 39 yards. The Eskimo offensive unit had a bit of an off-night but Warren Moon isn't likely to give up another four interceptions in any future game. 2.

HAMILTON: What's this? A second-place team in the downtrodden East being rated Number Two in Canada? Well, for 55 minutes on Saturday, they looked good enough to be rated Number One! They've had a weird up-and-down season but their defence finally came together when they beat B.C. a week ago. The defensive unit was hot again in Edmonton and, if they retain their present form, they're quite likely to knock off Winnipeg next Sunday. 3. WINNIPEG: Idle on the weekend, they're the only team in Canada to have won 1 1 games.

However, since Labor Day, they have lost three of their seven games and Ray Jauch has been unable to find a genuinely adequate replacement for Eugene Goodlow. 4. TORONTO: So far, these youngsters haven't demonstrated that they are even close to Concordes corral Rider quarterback Chris Isaac Skip savors revenge Sears bum $13 Save Sears xercenfre 97 1 Reg. 329.97 ea. Rough Riders 34 Concordes 32 MONTREAL (CP) For Skip Walker, helping Ottawa clinch a playoff spot was doubly satisfying because the Rough Riders' win eliminated the Montreal Concordes, the Canadian Football League team that gave up on him.

Walker, the CFL's leading rusher, carried the ball 21 times for 1 13 yards and two touchdowns Sunday to pace the Rough Riders to the triumph which clinched the third and final playoff spot in the Eastern Division. "I wouldn't say this is revenge, but I know everybody on the team (Montreal) and I get up for the game," said Walker, traded to Ottawa for a draft choice before the season. The Rough Riders, who advanced to the Grey Cup last season despite a 5-11 regular-season won-lost record, wanted the victory badly to build momentum for their final game against the first-place Toronto Argonauts next week. "If we can beat Toronto, we may go all the way to the Cup, said Walker, who is playing out his option and is expected to test the market in the United States. The Concordes needed to beat Ottawa by at least 51 points, win against B.C.

Lions next week and hope Ottawa would lose its final game to make the third and final playoff spot in the Eastern Division. The Rough Riders exploded that scenario after just 29 seconds when quarterback Chris Isaac executed a triple-reverse 76-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Carl Powell. Walker's touchdowns came on runs of five and 19 yards, while defensive back Billy Hardee scored on a 21 -yard fumble recovery. Placekicker Gerry Organ kicked two field goals and converted all the Ottawa touchdowns. Concordes slotback Marc Lacelle caught two touchdown passes one of eight yards, the other a one-yarder from quarterback Johnny Evans.

Tight end Nick Aragki, who tied a club mark with 12 catches in the game, caught a nine-yard touchdown with 1:35 left in the game for Montreal. Wide receiver Brian DeRoo caught the other touchdown on a 24-yard Evans toss. Galat had promised the Concordes would "go crazy" against Ottawa, but the Rough Riders beat them to the punch with the razzle-dazzle touchdown to Powell. With the ball on the Ottawa 34 yard line, Isaac handed off to Walker, who gave it to wide receiver Jeff Avery, who flipped it back to Isaac. Isaac found Powell at least 20 yards behind a fooled Montreal secondary after 29 seconds of play.

Bad became worse when defensive back Carl Brazley intercepted Evans's first pass on Montreal's second play from scrimmage. The Concordes defence held but went offside on Organ's field goal attempt to give the Ottawa offence a new life. Two plays later Organ made no mistake on his second placement try. Evans marched the Concordes 75 yards on 14 plays, capping the drive with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Lacelle. Montreal pulled even after Sweet booted the first of two 44-yard field goals at the end of the first quarter.

The Concordes took a 13-10 lead when Sweet kicked the second one at 2:02 of the second quarter. The lead was short-lived. Two plays after Charles Cornelius picked off an Issac pass in the the end zone, Hardee picked up a fumble by tight end Nick Aragki and ran 21 yards for Ottawa's second touchdown at 6: 13.
