E6 EDMONTON JOURNAL, Wednesday. June 3, 1981 Junior Journal By Lesley Francis He's certainly been busy since the last time I heard from him. . And the JPC's 5,000th member Robert Block of Drayton Valley sent me a newspaper clipping to prove it. Right there in black and white is a picture of Robert and his invention, Robby the Robot. After spending 60 hours putting Robby together, Robert won a best robot contest for his efforts. The robot walks, talks, lights up, goes backwards and forwards, and turns. Congratulations on your ingenuity, Robert! BOOK REVIEWS . . . I delved into my burgeoning file of book reviews and found the following book reviews by Rowland Johnson, 13, of St. Albert and Rosanne Fortier, 14, of Edmonton. Rowland reviews The Great Brain by John D. Fitzgerald. This story takes place in Utah in 1896 in a town called Adenville. The story is told by the younger brother of the Great Brain and it begins when all the children of the district have to go back to school. No one really wants to go back to school for fear of the new teacher. After much persuading, they all go. Mr. Standish, the mean, new schoolmaster, repeatedly embarrasses Tom D. Fitzgerald (alias T.D., alias The Great Brain, also John's older brother) in front of his classmates. Tom finally decides that the teacher, or torturer, whichever comes first, must go. He plants bottles of whiskey in the teacher's drawer, coat pocket and under his pillow. When the principal discovers these, the story gets to be a riot! This is just one of the many things Tom does. The book is great for anyone 8 years and older. This is just one of the many books in the Great Brain series. Read them all. Rosanne takes a look at It Isn't Easy Being a Teenage Millionaire by Joan Oppenheimer. ; At the beginning of the book, life is a big bore for Lissa. Nothing exciting ever happens and there's nothing much to look forward to. Then she wins a million dollar lottery and she thinks life will be great, but it's not. Her family remains just as square and her friends aren't impressed. Maybe a million dollars isn't what she thought it would be. : THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Parents are human, too.
