Rosanne takes a look at It Isn't Easy Being a Teenage Millionaire by Joan Oppenheimer. At the beginning of the book, life is a big bore for Lissa. This story takes place in Utah in 1896 in a town called Adenville. The story is told by the younger brother of the Great Brain and it begins when all the children of the district have to go back to school. No one really wants to go back to school for fear of the new teacher. After much persuading, they all go. Mr.

Standish, the mean, new schoolmaster, repeatedly embarrasses Tom D. Fitzgerald (alias T.D., alias The Great Brain, also John's older brother) in front of his classmates. Tom finally decides that the teacher, or torturer, whichever comes first, must go. He plants bottles of whiskey in the teacher's drawer, coat pocket and under his pillow.
