Cineplex has developed a loyal and dedicated group of regular movie-goers who are able to see their selected film without lineups, without crowded audi-toria, and with other people who share their appreciation for motion pictures. Drabinsky is president. Both reside in Toronto. All of the new cinema complexes will be located within prestigious urban or suburban commercial developments. Presently Cineplex Corporation is operating 131 screens in Canada in seventeen locations: Toronto Eaton Cente (21 theatres); Carlton Toronto (10); Scarborough, Ont. (12); Richmond Hill, Ont.

(5); Mississauga, Ont. (6); Burlington, Ont. (6); Kitchener, Ont. (6); Peterborough, Ont. (6); Thunder Bay, Ont.

(8); Ottawa Va-nier (6) and Kanata (6); Montreal, Que. (9); St. Calgary, (9); Winnipeg, Man. (7). Corporation of a multi-theatre location in the Edmonton area.

The new nine-theatre complex is located on the street level of the Principal Plaza Parkade at 10032 103rd St The first Cineplex in the Edmonton area opened in October at The Village Tree Mall in St. Albert with 12 theatres. The doors to the new complex will open at 1:45 p.m. Friday and the first shows will start at 2 p.m. Tom Timmons, a native of Montreal, is the manager of the new 650 seat facility.

He has been in Edmonton for five years and began his career in the theatre business three years ago with the Canadian Odeon Thea-, treshere. Official opening ceremonies are being held today with head office officials, civic ana provincial dignitaries and invited guests tak- ing part. Cineplex 9, will show- case the best in English and foreign-language films from around the globe, including cinema classics, art films, retro-; spectives, and for young audiences the highest calibre of children's films. It echoes, on a smaller scale, the successful multi-theatre concept originated by Cineplex, Toronto Eaton Centre with 21 screens the world's first and largest Cine- plex under one roof, as noted in the Guiness Book of World Records. Cineplex Corporation is the Canadian company that pioneered the multi-screen concept of film viewing in Canada and the U.S.

Cineplex now operates 131 screens across Canada and expansion plans will include a total of 200 screens by mid 1982. U.S. expansion plans are now in progress, with locations confirmed for Los Angeles, California; Houston, Texas; Northridge, California; and Denver, Colorado. Negotiations are proceeding in prime American markets including Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, New York City, San Diego, Minneapolis and other locations in southern California. Among the distinctive features that are unique to Cineplex are the wide selection of films, advance ticket sales, reduced line-ups and thorough theatre clean-ups after each performance.

The expansion program includes Hamilton, Vancouver, B.C., Windsor, Toronto, Regina, Halifax, N.S., St. John's, SL John, N.B. London, Ont, and Saskatoon, Sask. The development of this national theatre chain creates a new circuit outlet in which to showcase the best in English and foreign language films from around the globe, including cinema classics, art films, retrospectives, and for young audiences, the highest calibre of children's films.
