II. Martin. The Pioneer society has taken a very active interest in all public improvements the building of a pavilion in the public square the reception given to the New England pioneers in April. 1890, which was an occasion lon te be remembered. The construction of a wagon road to Bear valley was recommended by the ociety, but up to the present time has only been partially carried through.

In celebrating the Fourth of July and Admission Day the pioneers have also taken an active interest, and they in fact are among the most progressive and energetic of all our citizens. The celebration of the golden wedding of Pioneer N. P. Earp and his estimable wife Colton is an event long to be remembered by them. The active interest taken by this so-cietv in behalf of the preervation of that old landmark, Sutter's Fort, had the desired effect; but for which interest and attention that old landmark would have been destroyed.
